I should look into making the tile generator be able to upload to S3 directly (and while it generates tiles) though -- that'd make the file size issue significantly less painful.

ah, i thougt you'd been using the original tiles somehow. but yes. png tiles would look much better

the uhh tiles are dynamically generated from a handful of ... mostly build-time generated textures I think? Which are generated from some tool that renders out the maps or something. It's too complicated for my feeble mind :<
But the compositing bit is done in real-time

could you generate, say the wvw region, as png to test and see if it makes a significant difference? (it does for sure :D)

the total size is basically an order of magnitude larger
right now the bottleneck is writing the data out to disk, then uploading it to S3 (the upload bit is currently a manual step -_-)
if the tile generator can skip the disk and just upload to S3 then I'll probably just sneak up .png tiles too

Pretty sure we log out an event every time the mystic forge is used, so it's theoretically possible.
The whitelist works by ingesting the event logs, so I'd just have to run some queries against the historical events to pre-seed it, then we'd have semi-realtime data.
Albeit of questionable merit.

piken was on a wvw raid for lumber before I left, charging right past the keep lords and going for the lumber nodes, I wonder how much they collected
