    Tech solutions so we can live forever! Another infamous article to add to the technosolutionism pile https://medium.com/s/futurehuman/game-over-bf20324ba420
    @rufuspollock @ninongodefroy this paragraph really made me laugh/cry "Dave Asprey, a tech investor turned Bulletproof biohacking guru, is a Stoicism proponent who has hacked the hack. Rather than rely on meditation to help him overcome his hangups about mortality, Asprey spent four months of his life taping electrodes to his skull and sealing himself in a neurofeedback chamber, where he systematically deleted his brain’s instinctive responses to thoughts of death and other stimuli.” :D :D

    @rufuspollock @laurieparma @all . Do you have any recommendations of bodies to contact to obtain funding to carry out research on 'How we can reduce the environmental impact & increase the wellbeing of persons living in housing for multiple occupation including student halls of residents within the UK.' Have contacted the ESRC & the Evidence Centre For UK Housing
    Rufus Pollock
    @rufuspollock
    No, but i have suggestions on how to do the search for them - also did you track who attended all your sessions (e.g. getting names, emails and affiliations ...) ;-)
    Esteban
    @beond_z_twitter
    Amigos, check this out. AET is obviously way better #jokingnotjoking but this http://www.pandorahub.co/ is really interesting. Fits into the model of tech-enabled workers reversing the trend of urbanisation to live and work in a weller way :)

    Interesting to these comments from a traditionalist organicon on (i suspect) the right:

    https://theworthyhouse.com/2018/12/07/stubborn-attachments-a-vision-for-a-society-of-free-prosperous-and-responsible-individuals-tyler-cowen/

    Finally, the age of sophisters and calculators has fully arrived, and its herald is Tyler Cowen. He, economist and blogger, is here to tell us the purpose of life. It is to die with the most toys. Well, that, plus maximum freedom to do whatever we want with our toys while we are still alive. [emphasis added]

    We talked about this in “how much is enough” review. I think we need to name this as a fallacy: “the GDP maximizing, political managerialism, de gustibus non est disputandum, material goods are more important than non-material” … #link

    @rufuspollock thanks will read.

    Fascinating post..... delightfully snarky whilst definitely deep and thoughtful, and I mostly agree with his conclusions, about everything, which is good since he seems overtly learned. His discussion about virtue and flourishing to my mind is a little too absent of mention of emotion - which for me at least is at the heart of any form of living wealth. The author, a recovering M&A lawyer, is I think is struggling a little to distance himself from the world of Tyler Cowen. And as I read this he sounded like an interesting person to invite to a future gathering. I couldn't help wanting to discover more about him ( perhaps you know who he is Rufus ) it doesn't say on the blog who he is, and his reticence on that front points again to what I think is a good soul trapped in a City of London lifestyle. Instead Charles reveals an interesting and rather stark psychological profile based on a test devised by Jordan Peterson, who is one of the neo-philosophers of the alt-right that I confess I despise, and about who I am in an ongoing dispute with my stepson. All of which is a rather long introduction to my question:
    Is there going to be a Gathering this year? I certainly hope so.

    P.S. It looks like you have shut down discourse.
    Joseph McArthur
    @JosephMcArthur

    FYI, the final section of https://artearthtech.com/institute/ has a bunch of duplicated text

    We are interested in non-dogmatic exploration of the ancient claim that mindfulness practice only reaches its fullest potential for human benefit when paired with complementary understandings of psychology, reality, and livelihood. This approach to living challenges western notions about the place of rationality in life, and the pursuit of purpose. (see primer on non-attachment to views

    Rufus Pollock
    @rufuspollock
    @althecat_twitter yes we shut down discourse as not much used and costing us $25 a month.
    @BadHandle_twitter can you look into fixing the institute page ...
    Rufus Pollock
    @rufuspollock
    @liam / @BadHandle_twitter what do you think about having a “notebook” space at the institute or under the blog e.g. notebook.artearthtech.com or artearthtech.com/institute/notebook .. - it would be a place to post “lab notebook” style thoughts and reflections and observsations including book excerpts etc.
