Hello, I filed https://dev.arvados.org/issues/17245 as https://doc.arvados.org/v2.1/install/crunch2-slurm/install-slurm.html appears to not be linked to from any document nor the table of contents
I only found it via git greping a local checkout..
Lucas Di Pentima
@ldipenti
Thanks @mr-c, will look into it!

@mr-c
@ldipenti thank you!!

@mr-c

I actually think that was dropped on purpose because we didn't want to be in the business of telling people how to set up their SLURM any more.

@tetron speaking of setting up slurm, is there a config we can examine from the old days when Arvados would run slurm on AWS?

Peter Amstutz
@tetron
that's basically the document you found
Michael R. Crusoe
@mr-c
Well.. This is a document, versus an actual config file; the contents may vary :-)

Hello, I am trying to set up the cloud dispatcher. What should I give as the AMI ID ? I am giving --aws-source-ami ami-0efeb597fb81e0679 for example and it returns not found (I follow the setup guide). Is this the correct format or is anything else needed ?
Peter Amstutz
@tetron
I'm not sure where you're getting --aws-source-ami from? https://doc.arvados.org/v2.1/install/crunch2-cloud/install-dispatch-cloud.html is what you should be looking at
Ward Vandewege
@cure
@georgebax that AMI in the doc page @tetron linked is just a made up example
the idea is that you have your own compute image AMI, which you build as per the instructions at https://doc.arvados.org/v2.1/install/crunch2-cloud/install-compute-node.html
does that help?
I'll update the doc page to make that more clear
Ward Vandewege
@cure
(docs are updated, you may need to shift-reload)

Eventually I needed to add an --aws-region, thanks

The single-host salt installation apparently has installed and configured the workbench (indeed it runs), but I can't seem to find the arvados-workbench.conf nginx config file. Where is it ?
I can't find the application.yml file either
How is the API server (and the workbench) configured?
Peter Amstutz
@tetron
since Arvados 2.0 it's all in /etc/arvados/config.yml
George Baxopoulos
@georgebax
Thanks. So there is now no need for the nginx config files? Because I am following the 2.1 guides and the nginx configuration parts are still there. I installed it using salt and now I am trying to install the composer, for context.
Peter Amstutz
@tetron
ah, you do still need nginx
George Baxopoulos
@georgebax
So for the composer I will still need to update the workbench's nginx configuration, but I can't find it!
Peter Amstutz
@tetron
let me see
https://doc.arvados.org/v2.1/install/install-workbench-app.html says to go to /etc/nginx/conf.d/arvados-workbench.conf you're saying that's not there?
it is possible the Salt install puts it somewhere else
@javierbertoli ?
I should also mention we don't really support the Composer any more. it still technically exists and should work but we don't have the resources to maintain it. I'm currently working on a new, lighter weight development environment for CWL workflows based on vscode
George Baxopoulos
@georgebax
The file is not there, no
Ah, I see
George Baxopoulos
@georgebax
But these don't contain the nginx conf files. I see that the contents are there for the installation, but does salt interfere with how nginx runs ?
there is a /etc/nginx/conf.d/mod-http-passenger.conf file
which says 'this file is managed by salt', but nothing else in this directory
Peter Amstutz
@tetron
https://github.com/arvados/arvados/blob/master/tools/salt-install/single_host/nginx_workbench_configuration.sls is a salt pillar which gets turned into a nginx configuration file by the nginx salt formula
George Baxopoulos
@georgebax
at runtime?
what happens after the installation?
Peter Amstutz
@tetron
no, by running salt
back up, where did you start from
George Baxopoulos
@georgebax
I started with the guide for the single host salt installation. Everything worked with no issues, salt installed it
Workbench runs as well
Peter Amstutz
@tetron
ok, great
George Baxopoulos
@georgebax
Also I installed the arvados dispatcher and a compute node, which run the sample workflow
ran*
Now I want to add the composer
Peter Amstutz
@tetron
