Good (local) afternoon
Pursuant to the NRT discussion - I know I bleated pretty loud when Blazor came along with property binding. I knew it was gonna bite everyone in the ass eventually. I get the appeal of property binding, but... for me ... it's just not a good idea.
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
how is property binding a problem? :-?
In the end, even not binding, one has to ensure objects are not null
Peter Morris
@mrpmorris
How has property binding bitten me in the ass? I haven't noticed.

Oo

@AlbertoPa
!
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
the warning telling you that ? should only be used when in nullable context, if you use "warnings" should not be there (it just clutters the list of warnings while one ports)

I just want an interrobang ⁉️ operator
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
this: >!!<
code moved to net 6 finally... now 339 ! or ? or whatever, and it should work :P
Sören Nils Kuklau

If you hate NRT so much, why not marry it?
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
interesting theory LOL
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
@chucker23n:matrix.org I propose the :coffee: operator!
Sören Nils Kuklau
@chucker23n:matrix.org
[m]
Is that for inline Java code
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
I imagine it means "I gave up and let the framework whatever it sees fit" :P
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
Stuff like this seems so bloated...
    protected override bool TryParseValueFromString(
        string? value,
        [MaybeNullWhen(false)] out double result,
        [NotNullWhen(false)] out string? validationErrorMessage)
Sören Nils Kuklau
@chucker23n:matrix.org
[m]
I’m inclined to disagree
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
about?
bloated or external tool? :P
Sören Nils Kuklau
@chucker23n:matrix.org
[m]
I think it’s correct to build in stronger support for detecting null errors at compile time
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
I agree, but I do not agree in throwing an error at runtime if the annotations aren't in place, breaking code that is indeed correct
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
example, why would a controller throw Error 400 if the model sent has an IList object representing an optional relationship (can't be marked as nullable)?
Alberto Passalacqua
@AlbertoPa
I am curious to see how they will update the doc, because the asp tutorials won't work with the templates and will have warnings with NRT disables :P

neighbor rang the doorbell at 7 AM asking if my car is parked… uh, I don't have one. "we have to make room on the street for construction vehicles" maybe you should've thought of that a few days earlier?

then at 10, they decided to shut off power. luckily only for 40 minutes. or maybe they'll shut it off again; who knows, because communication and planning don't seem to be their strong suits

(usually, what maintenance crews do is attach a little note to the front door, about a week earlier saying "we plan to shut off power between this and that")
Haytam Zanid
@zHaytam
40 minutes is a lot no?
Sören Nils Kuklau
@chucker23n:matrix.org
[m]
dunno
I'm only bothered that they didn't announce this ahead of time (to my knowledge), cause if so, I would've simply slept longer or gone to the office instead

My neighbour once rang my doorbell rather unexpectedly at 4am...I almost dropped the electric drill...

anyone here have some experience playing with containers in Windows Server?
i get the impression almost nobody uses them (especially with Nano Server)

I've got web app with a grid. When I select a row in grid it then sets a param in a child component. But it's not working right. After I click a grid row, VS shows the process memory shoots from about 150mb to 500mb. Is there a way I can diagnose what's happening?

Joe4evr
@Joe4evr
well firstly, there's a button right below that graph that'll give you snapshots of the memory
create one before and one after the action and you can check out the diff between them
DeuceL
@DeuceL
ok, if I'm reading this memory diff table correct, the majority of the increased memory is coming from objects of types Microsoft.AspNetCore.Components.Rendering.etc or Components.RenderTree.etc
SQL-MisterMagoo
@SQL-MisterMagoo
How is your grid composed?
Joe4evr
@Joe4evr
yea, I expected it be something internal like that
question: are you using @key on your grid rows?
DeuceL
@DeuceL
No, my grid is a component from MudBlazor. It is bound to SelectedItem="myObject", when myObject changes, it updates an ID variable that is the parameter of the child component.

@StefanOssendorf
Did anyone implement some form of logging sending to their own (protected?) server with respect to security issues (flooding and so on) and could share their XP? :-) Thanks in advance!

@DeuceL
I'm guessing when I update my ID variable it's creating a loop some how. It's probably something to do with automatic rerendering blazor does. I'm not entirely familiar with what triggers those to happen yet. I'll just try to take shit out until it works again lol.
