Could you be a little more specific?
Are you reading in a fits BinTable and want to read specific columns?
If that's the case you can directly read it in a Table and use the column name to index it.

You could even use fits.getdata with header=True to get the data and header. In which case you could check the header keywords if you want some specific metadata to verify it's TIME or not.

@Cadair As far as I remember the default precision for Time is 3. If you change the precision I think FITS time format will allow greater precision.
