OnlineDater on Freenode Hi there, I just prompted #openastronomy with this, but I'm looking for a CCD I can control (not a webcam, or like a DSLR with only it's settings) and the people who have taught me everything I know about this are astronomers strapping them to telescopes. Even the books I learned from and one of the people who taught me - all astronomy. I'm also a die hard open source hippy - so I wont go with anything I can't command/configure/set up myse
OnlineDater on Freenode lf, and what I want to do would require me to write stuff anyway.
OnlineDater on Freenode I figured this is a good place to come. I'm having trouble finding any to buy in the first place. Blocking my "research and find the manual for - look at existing software and build with" - obviously what I'll do will be open and not to be mean; but I don't mean like "useless incomplete undocumented crap on Github" open - and I don't want to reinvent the wheel either. So I'm not a total sponge.
OnlineDater on Freenode Technically I'm a mathematician and we're usually better at physics than you lot - so forgive my smugness :P

OnlineDater on Freenode What I hope to do though isn't astronomy based which is partly why I'm seeking direct help rather than reading one of the loads (my bookmarks have exploded as my swap-space fills up, closing tabs to save space! Firefox has 53.8G (byte) address space ATM and I don't want to thrash out again - anyway those are all with an eye towards astronomy
OnlineDater on Freenode I don't really know how to do this but I'd appreciate some help in picking a CCD especially. Would it help if I showed some pictures of stuff you'd be surprised I took with the gear I took them with (eg picture showing Mars and colours with little noise on a setup totally not for this, solar eclipse from a few years ago, ect)

OnlineDater on Freenode I'm also "really good with" (I don't know how to prove this, but I'm not like one of those students who get's a bit of knowledge and struts like an expert - at least without a textwall) "images" and maybe could provide you with some tools that you either already have or might find handy.
OnlineDater on Freenode Sorry for the textwall - I'm really out of my comfort zone here (on freenode given my usual "words per RTFM" I should have said "RTFM" like 12 times by now)
