Cadair (@cadair:cadair.com) yeah that's pretty common
Cadair (@cadair:cadair.com) it's all containers in VMs etc

astrofrog Cadair: what's the URL for the openastronomy matrix server? (to log in to Riot)
    Cadair (@cadair:cadair.com) openastronomy.modular.im
astrofrog I got logged out due to a corrupt session (think I ran out of disk space)
    Cadair (@cadair:cadair.com) oh 😕

Peanut on Freenode Hi everyone - I'm trying to plot a few stars, in RA and Dec. I keep running into how to initialize a useful WCS without having a FITS file. Does anyone have suggestions please?

nitin_k I have a small query... When we create a cartesian coordinate, can all the three coordinates be of different units in astropy?

amaurea on Freenode In relatively recent versions of astropy (at least on my laptop) wcs.WCS(naxis=2) results in an annoying warning being printed every time: WARNING: FITSFixedWarning: 'datfix' made the change 'Set DATE-REF to '1858-11-17' from MJD-REF'. [astropy.wcs.wcs]
amaurea on Freenode Is there a way to turn off this warning globally?
amaurea on Freenode I often build wcs objects piecewise - first constructing an empty one and then setting its properties. This still works fine, but now every location where that happens triggers a warning
amaurea on Freenode OK, this works I guess
    amaurea on Freenode warnings.filterwarnings("ignore", category=wcs.FITSFixedWarning)

Hi, I am new here. I am having some troubles with ellipse fitting using the photutils package. Since the last messages on the photutils chat are from over 3 years ago, I thought I would seek help here.
I am currently facing astropy/photutils#707 issue, and I more or less know what and where the problem is. The leastsq function from scipy.optimize is running into an error where the data points to be fitted, M , are greater than the number of parameters used for fitting, N (Improper input: N=5 must not exceed M=0 [photutils.isophote.fitter]). If anyone can help me figure out why that is, I'd be really grateful. Thanks!

Hi all! i’m playing a bit with astropy, the library is amazing but so big that i’m getting a bit lost so i hope someone can help me.
So i have a ground_station = EarthLocation(lat=57.046707, lon=9.935932, height=0) additionally i have a CartesianRapresentation (in the same geocentric reference system) of the position of a satellite in a given orbit at any given time. Now assuming a random initial position how can i calculate the next passage of the satellite over the ground station?
