Hi all, saw this referenced here before by @acidjazz http://stackoverflow.com/a/18972557/1143731
Just curious... why does AWS API or the SDK require separate json_encoded arrays for a successful delivery? just racked my brain for a while... docs were a bit lacking on sdk side.
i can submit a PR to improve docs if this is necessary

SNS offers a lot of flexibility with that API while keeping the data types tightly defined
The message must always be a string, so they support multiple protocols by allowing the submission of JSON instead of a string containing just the message text
some of the protocols themselves support multiple configuration options, which SNS accepts as JSON
As far as the SDK is concerned, you are always sending a string
but the structure of the string has meaning to SNS
