It seems that spire's algebra has been split out into a different project, with the intent that more projects can include just algebra as a dependency: https://github.com/non/algebra
Spire has not yet moved over (although they say it is the intent), but Cats are already using it
The one difference I noticed is that the function names of the monoid typeclass changed from id and op to empty and combine.
Does axle have any plans to use the new algebra?
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
Yes, I hope to. Although I will likely wait until spire adopts it as well
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
@apauley I'd love to hear more about your impressions. I'll be giving a talk about Axle on Friday at Scala by the Bay in Oakland. I imagine that video will be up shortly afterward.
Andreas Pauley
@apauley
@adampingel Sure, I hope to play with quanta soon. Interested to see how the types interact and if it is a model that can be used for currency-aware amounts.
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
Cool. Let me know how that goes.
Btw, 0.2.0 is now on Sonatype -- the first actual release in 10 months
The .conversionGraph calls recently got a little more verbose. I may provide an alias soon to shorten that up again
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
just merged a PR with converterGraphK2 aliases
will update docs after next release. tests have already been updated to use them
axle lang
@axlelang
0.2.1 was just released to sonatype
the primary change is various aliases to make working with graphs of kind 2 (such as those in jung) less verbose
and also some 'common' aliases for other higher-kinded types
axle lang
@axlelang
a new set of docs is being pushed to axle-lang.org that reflect this
axle lang
@axlelang
and now I notice that the angles on the directed graph arrows need to be multiplied by -1
I'll prepare 0.2.2 tomorrow-ish with that fix
axle lang
@axlelang
the fix is in 0.2.2-SNAPSHOT. I'll hold off on releasing 0.2.2 until more changes accrue. axle-lang.org has been published against 0.2.2-SNAPSHOT
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
@/all 0.2.2 was just published
will be working on docs for a while before creating any new functionality
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
0.2.2 contained pythagorean means and their “moving” counterparts (including moving generalized f-mean)
I expect most of the rest of this year to be occupied by improvements to test coverage and documentation
axle lang
@axlelang
0.2.4 is released!
and check out the new tut-powered site
axle lang
@axlelang
0.2.6 is released!

Checking to make sure I’ve got the story straight on cats-kernel’s Eq and Order interop with Spire’s versions
Then I’ll be updating docs
and then 0.2.7 will come out
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
name := "demo"
scalaVersion := "2.11.8"
libraryDependencies += "org.spire-math" %% "spire" % "0.13.0"
libraryDependencies += "org.typelevel" %% "cats-kernel" % "0.8.1"

@adampingel
Axle 0.2.7 is on Sonatype!
docs will be udpated over the next week
I think the spire/algebra/cats-kernel/axle interop (for Eq and Order) is still not totally mature, but I have workarounds in place for now and a question posed in the spire room
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
Got Axle passing tests locally against Spire 0.13.1-SNAPSHOT axlelang/axle#156
I’ll publish as soon as that version of Spire is published
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
I may also support scala 2.12 in Axle 0.2.8
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
0.2.8 is out
  • Fix SVG rendering of negative values in BarChart
  • Make more arguments to vis components functions (colorOf, labelOf, diameterOf)
  • Depend on Spire 0.14.0 (which depends on Typelevel Algebra)
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
0.3.1 is out
improvements to BarChart*
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
0.3.2 is out
some LinearAlgebra cleanup
and change to PixelatedColoredArea
^ that used to be a ScatterPlot, which did not work well
that’s a 4k x 4k image. takes maybe 20-30 seconds to render
Adam Pingel
@adampingel
in axle 0.3.3 (just released) bar chart bars can be links. see http://axle-lang.org/tutorial/bar_charts/

hello again. I'm spending a little more time with Axle again lately. Hoping to get another release out again in the coming months
