Hi guys, i am introducing backup as mysql backup daily method for single db. I have setup bzip compressor and local srora
Local storage, everything is awsome, but
I would like to have for the latsst
I would like to have for the latest backup a symlink to latest
So in automated way i can easily access to it
And i would like to avoid tar step because the sql dump is already in bzip2 format and tar it is useless
Is there any way to do those things?

@lzecca78 - For the symlink, you could try using an “after” hook (see link above). The output is not adjustable - the tar is harmless, but I understand that it feels a bit pointless in this case.

you can trigger behaviors reffering to other task names
this give you a lot of power and granularity

yes yes, what i was trying to say is that the after/before hook of backup is something that let you do something like the rspec before/after
you cannot say before :archive do <code> end
that should be great

To be honest, that won’t happen unless you fork Backup: there is not much development these days.
If you have a simple and specific set of needs, then there’s nothing wrong with just writing a shell script

I have posted this notice on the project README and documentation ^^^
I will be working on a test plan, and then working through the open tickets to update them appropriately
Various issues will be resolved by Backup 5.0, but feature requests won’t.

Once the Backup 5.0 code passes whatever set of tests I think is essential, I will see about moving it to Release Candidate status.
My expectation is that there will be 0 open tickets for Backup 5.0. Mostly by politely closing feature request tickets and pull requests.
I expect that some people will be disappointed, but I am a strong believer in the Debian principle that nobody can demand free labour from someone else.
If you would like to develop a feature for your own fork, or submit a bug fix, I am happy to help as best I can.

Hey everyone. I'm using the Slack notifier, and was wondering fi there's a way to omit the log output when a backup completes with a warning. Some of those logs can be quite large, and it creates for pretty large Slack posts in my case.
And thanks for the sweet backup software. Very good stuff.

Hi, I want to use S3 bucket to save my backups, and want to see all my files on top level in bucket, but even if I add the next setting in config for S3 storage s3.path = '/' I see my files wrapped in folder with the same name as my model name. How I can put all my backups in the root of my S3 bucket?

@KonstantinReido I don't think you can without monkey patching something, so no. The idea is that you can store multiple backup models in one location (s3 bucket or otherwise). The s3.path is for where the backup store location for all backups, nested within model directories.

@silentworks not that I'm aware. Are you sure the archive arguments point to the correct path? are you using absolute paths or relative paths?

Hi All .... We have been using backup for some time. However, we're also now using ruby 2.5 - which backup doesn't support. Are there alternative backup tools out there that people have used successfully?

The 5.0.0.beta.2 should work with Ruby 2.5

The 5.0.0.beta.2 still uses net-ssh 3.2, so we cannot use ssh/sftp with ruby 2.5 or ruby 2.6. I'm using pull request #905 for now.
