Currently, my understanding is that, links to code are not on chain
    Schubertrader (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
Hmm in eth you go to the nearest blockchain explorer and can review everything if you can solidity. Would be good if it's the same with beam TBH.
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
    That's actually not on-chain either
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
etherscan does it as a service to the community
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
it's been discussed in this room, before
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
I know there are a couple of devs who support the idea of having a link to it on-chain

Thanks for the feedback on it..yes for the time being it may prevent some scams, on other hand a regular Joe, the online digital content creator will have to go somewhere else for his social tokens as very soon with beam it will cost him 3000 usd and more..
It seems all of a sudden the privacy will become the luxurious thing when it comes to creating a simple token, I'm sure there will be a solution to that. Imagine pirate chain coming up with the same thing with the cost of a 5$ vs 5000$
I don't think it makes sense to price this service so high in order to weed out the potentially bad elements, they will come anyway. The private smart contract can be massive so may require some extra fees but paying thousands of $$$ to create a token on beam where other chains do it for a few quid?

I guess this is why beamX DAO will govern the whole thing and decide over time what fees for creating confidential assets on beam are best to suit the market. It will be interesting to watch the governing proces at play, from submitting proposal to voting on this idea and many other ones

Wow didn't knew. I guess it "read" the code and show it into human readable format.
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
There IS a decompiler on etherscan
    Schubertrader (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
👌 Get it better now (I am not a coder lol)

I appreciate all this, and it all makes sense. Tbh the most reassuring part is that the devs identities are all public. And yeah I guess I’m wondering how the devs are testing the seaworthiness of the staking contract
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
Perhaps, that would be a great addition to the Beam wallet

I hope the upcoming DAO will solve such a problem in the future, if it arises. I think that if the price of Beam is high enough to result in a lack of new projects, by voting and changing the code it will be possible to remedy this (developers would have to comment on this). In the case of projects that cost a few pounds to create, the advantage is the ability to trace the blockchain, analyze the code and draw conclusions: scam or not scam. We all know here (at least I hope so) that we won't do things like that with Beam. Therefore, the higher price paid to create the project will, in my opinion, screen out hooligans and cheaters. I prefer privacy to be associated with a higher standard, and thus a correspondingly high price. If you're filthy rich, you care about your security and privacy. You pay a higher price than the common man. The same should be true for the privacy of cryptocurrencies. In this case, creating projects based on Beam etc. priv crypto.

I think beam lockup is necessary. Also
I believe that BeamX Grants will overcome the high barrier to entry of 3000 BEAM lockup.

I'm on the same page. The shouldn't be any massive paywall for building stuff on beam. Some projects might even need multiple tokens that interact so they would have to pay the fee multiple times. Or someone does a token swap for whatever reason and again has to pay. It's a barrier to adoption and independent developers will simply go to where it's affordable and easy to build on

    John ☽onut (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
The more users the more valuable the network, so imho one has to be careful with building barriers
    Laser Beam Scatman(Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
Yeah a barrier won’t necessarily avoid scams. Audits do. Can’t wait to 🥩.
    BeamTalk
    @BeamTalk
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
Yeah, I'm supportive of removing, or minimizing the lockup
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
It's already quite expensive for the average developer
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
    That would impact decentralization unfortunately
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
The biggest cost of decentralization is that people have to think for themselves
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
You don't have any omnipotent God to tell you what you can use and what you can't use or what can be there and can't be there
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
Even if it is a barrier to entry it's a really great thing
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
I'm hoping there's no similar lock up to launch dapps

    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
    That being said though

The lockup does cause there to be a limited amount of potential confidential assets on the chain ever

    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
The biggest reason that I'd support this is because it incentivizes people to do something akin to ERC20 tokens
    BeamTalk
    @BeamTalk
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
Which would undermine the average users privacy, likely
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
I mean the cell on any good privacy coin is that you don't have to worry about staying private there isn't a million steps to do

It is to stop thousands of useless shitcoins appearing
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
    I mean they'll come anyway
    David (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
But at least they will reduce the circulatung supply
    Watamelon (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
I've seen individual people in here go ahead and promote the idea of a mascot coin on this chain anyway
    David (Ch: @BeamPrivacy)
A dead shitcoin will at least burn the 3000 beam
