    although at this point I think I'm misunderstanding what this option should do

    Anyone know why https://fava.pythonanywhere.com/ is down?
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    David It's because I needed to reference it to setup budgets, so now it's down. Sorry everyone!
    David I've had some luck getting cached pages through google

    Is anyone aware of a hotkey that shows/hides accounts with zero balance?

    Jorge Martínez López > <@gitter_zburatorul:matrix.org> Is anyone aware of a hotkey that shows/hides accounts with zero balance?

    No, it seems it's only available as an option. I guess you can change that setting on your beancount file and reload.

    Eugeniu Plamadeala
    @Zburatorul
    How do you all deal with the proliferation of closed accounts? Even if show-closed-accounts is False, accounts with a non-zero balance will always be shown.
    (I have Income accounts that are no longer relevant)
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    Jorge Martínez López Sorry Eugeniu tried to post a link and it failed
    Jorge Martínez López showing zero balance accounts and close accounts is configurable as an option
    Eugeniu Plamadeala
    @Zburatorul
    @matrixbot, these options don't work. I have both show-accounts-with-zero balance at false, and show-closed-accounts at false. But as I mentioned in my original post closed accounts with non-zero balance still show up. While it may not make sense to have such asset/liability accounts. Such income/expense accounts do make sense.

    Hi,
    I want to use this plugin > plugin "beancount.plugins.implicit_prices"
    but I'm not quite sure how to run the plugin ?
    Adam Gibbins
    @adamgibbins
    qymab: you simply put plugin "beancount.plugins.implicit_prices" at the top of your beancount file
    qymab

    Already put the syntax, but nothing change in beancount file ?

    I try run the bean-check
    Eugeniu Plamadeala
    @Zburatorul
    @qymab, how did you install the plugin?

    Hi,

    Is there any method to get rid of old queries? How do one run queries inside the beancount file?

    Glen Schrader
    @gschrader
    @llsjk_twitter it's kept in the browser local storage, F12 in chrome under Application

    Hi,
    how do you use the Import tool from Fava? I wrote my import script, it asks to map the account to the files in the import dir, but nothing happens after I press the "Move" button. Thanks!
    Eugeniu Plamadeala
    @Zburatorul
    @dev4light, if you are not committed to using the fava import, I recommend beancount-import and finance-dl, a duo of packages that I use and work well.
    Jakob Schnitzer
    @yagebu
    @dev4light: If you entered account and file name but nothing happens on "Move", that sounds like a bug. If there's some error moving the file, it should show a notification with the error, otherwise it should show a notification on success. Are there errors in the browser console?

    varac Hej, I'm struggeling how to exclude an account from i.e. the balance sheet. Limiting it to one account by choosing one from the Account field above is intuitive, but how to exclude one ?
    varac Nevermind, just found it on the filter help page (I was looking in the account section, not in the Filter by tag, link section)

    Hi, I am a bit confused by how fava shows profits.

    When I enter expenses entry, it gets reflected in net profit on the main dashboard page

    Eugeniu Plamadeala
    @Zburatorul
    @yohanesyuen, are you talking about the profit = income - expenses formula, or the way things are displayed?

    ryantm In beancount, is it possible to write a posting costing multiple commodities? Like say I trade one chicken for a hammer and $5.
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    ryantm I should say what I'm trying to do: I'm trying to make a TXN that represents me manufacturing something. Like screwing together 4 SCREWS and 1 MECHANISM to make 1 WIDGET.
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    ryantm I think I figured it out with something like:
    ryantm 2020-11-11 * "Manufacturing" Assets:Inventory 1 WIDGET { 30 USD } Assets:Inventory -4 SCREWS { 10 USD } Assets:Inventory -1 MECHANISM { 10 USD }
    Eugeniu Plamadeala
    @Zburatorul
    @matrixbot, I see what you're trying to do. I don't know how to do that, but I suggest you ask on the beancount mailing list. It's quite active and you'll get a response.
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    ryantm Do you have to do something special to turn on the budget plugin in Fava?
    ryantm I added a custom directive for a monthly budget, but I don't see anything in the charts.
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    ryantm posted an image: image.png
    ryantm Eugeniu Plamadeala (Gitter): I don't see anything about the budget on the link you gave me.
    ryantm Looks like my image didn't go through to Gitter.

    You're showing the journal view. The link I gave you is supposed to show "changes". Some green and red numbers appear next to the entries, representing whether you went overbudget or not.

    Hello, Sorry to bother you. I am new to computers, and just isntalled beancount and fava. I recieved the following syntax error. Please if you could assist. I was not sure if this was the correct place to post.
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/local/bin/fava", line 7, in <module>
    from fava.cli import main
    File "/usr/local/lib/python3.5/dist-packages/fava/cli.py", line 89
    print(f"Running Fava on http://{host}:{port}")
    i assum it is a python error, but I have no programming background

    ryantm dnjkalnvfjdkln (Gitter): Can you post what command you typed and the full error message, if that isn't the full error message?

    @matrixbot
    xuhcc dnjkalnvfjdkln (Gitter): Looks like you need to install python 3.6 or later. Python 3.5 does not support f-strings afaik
