    @yohanesyuen, are you talking about the profit = income - expenses formula, or the way things are displayed?

    ryantm In beancount, is it possible to write a posting costing multiple commodities? Like say I trade one chicken for a hammer and $5.
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    ryantm I should say what I'm trying to do: I'm trying to make a TXN that represents me manufacturing something. Like screwing together 4 SCREWS and 1 MECHANISM to make 1 WIDGET.
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    ryantm I think I figured it out with something like:
    ryantm 2020-11-11 * "Manufacturing" Assets:Inventory 1 WIDGET { 30 USD } Assets:Inventory -4 SCREWS { 10 USD } Assets:Inventory -1 MECHANISM { 10 USD }

    @matrixbot, I see what you're trying to do. I don't know how to do that, but I suggest you ask on the beancount mailing list. It's quite active and you'll get a response.

    ryantm Do you have to do something special to turn on the budget plugin in Fava?
    ryantm I added a custom directive for a monthly budget, but I don't see anything in the charts.

    ryantm posted an image: image.png
    ryantm Eugeniu Plamadeala (Gitter): I don't see anything about the budget on the link you gave me.
    ryantm Looks like my image didn't go through to Gitter.

    You're showing the journal view. The link I gave you is supposed to show "changes". Some green and red numbers appear next to the entries, representing whether you went overbudget or not.

    Hello, Sorry to bother you. I am new to computers, and just isntalled beancount and fava. I recieved the following syntax error. Please if you could assist. I was not sure if this was the correct place to post.
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/local/bin/fava", line 7, in <module>
    from fava.cli import main
    File "/usr/local/lib/python3.5/dist-packages/fava/cli.py", line 89
    print(f"Running Fava on http://{host}:{port}")
    i assum it is a python error, but I have no programming background

    @matrixbot
    ryantm dnjkalnvfjdkln (Gitter): Can you post what command you typed and the full error message, if that isn't the full error message?

    @matrixbot
    xuhcc dnjkalnvfjdkln (Gitter): Looks like you need to install python 3.6 or later. Python 3.5 does not support f-strings afaik
    dnjkalnvfjdkln
    @dnjkalnvfjdkln
    fava and path to my file
    Adam Gibbins
    @adamgibbins
    That is as xuhcc said, you need python 3.6, you're running 3.5
    s/3.6/3.6 or newer/
    dnjkalnvfjdkln
    @dnjkalnvfjdkln
    nice thanks, ill try and install
    appreciate the help!

    Hi again, sorry!
    I use MX Linux, installed Python 3.9
    in usr /local/ bin, when fava is run the program searches for python 3.5 same as above Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/local/bin/fava", line 7, in <module>
    from fava.cli import main
    File "/usr/local/lib/python3.5/dist-packages/fava/cli.py", line 89
    print(f"Running Fava on http://{host}:{port}")
    Adam Gibbins
    @adamgibbins
    prefix fava with the name of your 3.9 binary
    python39 /usr/bin/fava or whatever
    dnjkalnvfjdkln
    @dnjkalnvfjdkln

    Ran the following:

    python3.9 /usr/local/bin/fava

    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/local/bin/fava", line 7, in <module>
    from fava.cli import main
    ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'fava'

    Jakob Schnitzer
    @yagebu
    You'll need to install Fava for Python 3.9 - so uninstall it first, and then install it with pip3.9 so that it is installed for Python 3.9 (currently it's installed at /usr/local/lib/python3.5/dist-packages/fava, so 3.9 won't find it, hence the ModuleNotFoundError)
    dnjkalnvfjdkln
    @dnjkalnvfjdkln
    Completed!! Thank you
    I uninstalled 3.5 on synaptic package manager
    switched to 3.9, and was able to run FAVA
    Take Care

    I apologize again for asking for help, I posted this in Beancount-Mode Github, not sure if this would be answered, Can you assist as you did for fava?

    I loaded the beancount.el file for emacs
    i receive the following issues:

    When I try beancount mode: Alt-x beancount-mode I get an error:
    (beancount-highlight-transaction-at-point): (void-function beancount-highlight-transaction-at-point)

    When I open emacs:
    Warning (initialization): An error occurred while loading `/home/family281/.emacs.d/init.el':
    Symbol's value as variable is void: completion-category-default

    I have been trying to get extensions running in Fava but without success.

    Installed them with pip --user. And have put 2000-01-01 custom "fava-extension" "fava_investor" "{}"in the top om my beancount file.

    When starting Fava the modules fail to load. What am I missing?

    Running MacOS.
    Extensions I am trying to use are Fava-investor and Fava-Envelope

    Aside from pythonanywhere are there any good free hosting options for fava?
    Eugeniu Plamadeala
    @Zburatorul
    There's no place like localhost :)

    @parseaus , You gotta give us an error message or something.

    How do one save the sort order permanently?
    putzwasser
    @putzwasser
    Not fava specific, but rahter beancount related: Can I create a lot specifing a total cost/price instead of a price per unit? https://beancount.github.io/docs/beancount_language_syntax.html#costs-and-prices says it is possible to use @@ for the price, but I'm wondering if that's possible for lots, too?
    Writing {@@ 315 EUR} in the lot part throws an error.
    Martin Blais
    @blais
    Try the total syntax,e.g. { # 315 EUR}
    The full syntax is { <per-unit> # <total> <currency>} and you can leave either the first part out
    There used to be {{...}} which still works afaik

    Thanks! Couldn't find it in the docs, maybe it's worth adding it?
