Following @ctrueden’s comments, I have some experience with making a simple Electron based client application for one of our service facilities. I would say that the thin client app is a quite a tempting choice if we can fork/manage the compute intensive processes in the different memory/process domains(e.g. python/R/JVM) through IPC/memory mapped file if possible. Supposedly, IJ thin client side has editor/visulize/UI event while IJ compute server side is for GPU/Cluster/Memory heavy tasks. Probably, there should be a lot of optimizations and tricks to overcome lagging client/server communications.

BTW, I tried Charts/TIFF loader/webGL in Electron app in https://github.com/hkmoon/electron-quick-start. Feel free to test it if you are interested. I will try to put VTK.js when I have some time later. OMG! I am sorry that the story is not related with BDV at all. :worried:
