@binarymist
Oreilly not interested, they say their readers struggle to get through 300 pages, there's just to much content apparently
Kim Carter
@binarymist
Back to repeatedly tearing what's left of my hair out with Packt I guess
Kim Carter
@binarymist
Just reviewing Packt stuff again. They've changed a large number of my commands.
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
I’m telling you, man. Packt isn’t worth it.
I know you like the deal less, but you want a quality publisher, with a good layout editor, gotta go with No Starch or Wiley. Packt blows hard.
Kim Carter
@binarymist
I'm doing a tech editors job for them, problem is, all my content was fine and now they've screwed it all up. Like why the hell are they litterally changing commands. If I bought this book as it currently stands by them, I'd be binning it.
Well, Oreilly say no one reads books over 300 pages anymore and so far No Starch and Wiley haven't been interested. Also they require us to put all this into word docs and change like the entire layout from memory.
I've never owned a Packt book, I read a few many years ago and they were rubbish then.
They haven't changed.
I'm not really concerned about money with No Starch or Wiley, just that they take all rights and I must hold them harmless which to me seems like insanity
Kim Carter
@binarymist
Just come across about a page of completly brand new content, I've never seen before... WTF?
Kim Carter
@binarymist
Right... time to review your edits (ch 8 Network). This will be luxurious.
Kim Carter
@binarymist
I guess I should update all of the SSM five step headings throughout the series with Sensible Security Model (SSM)?
Kim Carter
@binarymist
Noticed you added a few full stops at the end of list items, remember we decided to go with no full stops for these? I'm just checking there wasn't something I missed in this regard?
Kim Carter
@binarymist
How's VPS progressing?
Kim Carter
@binarymist
I'm guessing CAs should be CA's (possesive)?
Kim Carter
@binarymist
The last "Wrongfully Trusting the Loading of Untrusted Web Resources" you modified, but didn't modify any of the previous headings in Network chapter, was that intention?
Kim Carter
@binarymist
Headings look a bit funny with "1. Sensible Security Model (SSM) Asset Identification" instead of "1. SSM Asset Identification", although I guess it's needed.
Those changes are published to LeanPub now
Kim Carter
@binarymist
CRLs should be CRL's?
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
CRLs if you're referring to more than one of them, CRL's if they possess something (possessive). Same thing with CAs and CA's. "There are two CAs vs it is the CA's responsibility to secure their shit."
Re "Wrongfully Trusting the Loading of Untrusted Web Resources" you had it worded a bit differently earlier, but I suggest going with my change.
Kim Carter
@binarymist
So go with your change everywhere in Network chapter, or just one place?
Kim Carter
@binarymist
I've applied it to all spots.
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
All spots, good to go.
Kim Carter
@binarymist
Any ETA on VPS?
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
2-3 days tops, banging hard on it
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
Almost done, just a few hundred lines to go. Will definitely be finished tomorrow night.
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
Also, fix these on Leanpub here

Thanks for that.

Web Applications chapter been general edited and merged into master, now ready for tech edit by @holisticinfosec. @nzquail currently general editing Cloud chapter.
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
Forgot to reply. Acknowledged, will start next Monday, have an article in the way.
Kim Carter
@binarymist
No worries @holisticinfosec you're not the bottleneck currently.
Kim Carter
@binarymist
How's progress @holisticinfosec ?
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
Cruising along, @nzquail's work having positive impact on my efficiency. Are you aiming for a deadline for me to finish by? I can definitely be done over the next two weeks...
Kim Carter
@binarymist
That sounds good, cheers.
Kim Carter
@binarymist
How's progress on the Web Applications ch @holisticinfosec?
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
I'll be done in a day or two. Pre-editing helped, but not as much as I'd hoped. Still significant amounts or sentence fragments, run-ons, and grammar issues, so its slower going than planned.
Kim Carter
@binarymist
No stress, it'll be done when it's done. Cheers!
@nzquail has still got Network and VPS to do, so still plenty there to do before we can call it done.
Russ McRee
@holisticinfosec
I'm literally not doing anything else other than work until I'm finished, flows better that way to just drive to completion
Kim Carter
@binarymist
Roger, ta!
