I think 1. would be extremely useful, and we don't have the time to do it ourselves (the standard useful vs essential curse)
For 3. there would be something working before the summer, so it could be left a bit open and mention testing, performance etc which is also interesting
and it would be great and really useful to have 5. it could be a first step towards a mini-bio4j that could get people hooked on bio4j :)
and 4. is really easy to do, once tinkerpop3 stabilizes

yes, sorry. wanted to write something and forgot “)
could you say something more about 3?
Eduardo Pareja Tobes
@eparejatobes
Feb 17 2015 10:48
sure
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 10:48
about 1, what do you understand under a “shell”? a REPL for queries or somthing like that project, quantomatic?
Eduardo Pareja Tobes
@eparejatobes
Feb 17 2015 10:49
Something like a mysql shell but for scarph+bio4j (not generic scarph)
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 10:49
ahm
why not generic scarph? how does it help?
Eduardo Pareja Tobes
@eparejatobes
Feb 17 2015 10:50
well things get complex I guess if you want to have certain features
like tab completion etc
it could grow into something more generic later on
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 10:51
ok
Eduardo Pareja Tobes
@eparejatobes
Feb 17 2015 10:51
and I think is perfectly possible
the scala compiler is embeddable in a lot of ways
and writing sbt-based shells is easy too
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 10:52
yep, I was thinking about it
Eduardo Pareja Tobes
@eparejatobes
Feb 17 2015 10:52
it could be pretty time consuming
but I think is an ideal project for a student
you get to learn a lot of different things
and build something useful
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 10:54
agree
Eduardo Pareja Tobes
@eparejatobes
Feb 17 2015 10:56
and about 3.
The idea is to integrate the data import into the normal release process
make everything automatic etc
right now it's really time-consuming to make a new release
we will have ready in the next weeks the part about using a release
which is far more urgent
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 10:58
I see
thanks
Eduardo Pareja Tobes
@eparejatobes
Feb 17 2015 10:58
but making releasing easy is also important in the long run
including archiving old releases etc
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 11:00
yep
Eduardo Pareja Tobes
@eparejatobes
Feb 17 2015 11:12
yep
probably embedding the compiler is faster
if you could write something about this would be great
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 11:13

What about the idea regarding an Orient DB distribution?
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 14:51
I think we should resurrect it from the old repo :wink:

yeah... sure :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
by the way, there's a broken link in the markdown page
orientechnologies/orientdb#1895
it's weird
the link works here but it doesn't as part of the markdown file
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic
Feb 17 2015 14:57
yes, linking issue like org/repo#number works here, and in issues/comments, but no markdown files
(same with mentioning users)
Pablo Pareja Tobes
@pablopareja
Feb 17 2015 14:57
ok I just put the standard link

by the way, why don't we add a Neo4j distribution for the new version as project idea?
Alexey Alekhin
@laughedelic

yes :+1:
