(vanarpsharma) hey biojs
(vanarpsharma) i was following your work
(vanarpsharma) i wanted to contribute in this years gsoc
(vanarpsharma) will you be participating?
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 16:46
@greenify in the new UI should the content be changed using AJAX requests.
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 16:48
(fruittie) vanarpsharma: yes we will - however we are still in the progress of finding awesome projects & mentors ;-)
@prasunanand: it is just documentation and it is more work and troubles if you do so
or do you have something specific in mind?
(e.g. one problem by getting the content via Ajax is that it requires the html5 history API as users want to bookmark the page and share links to it)
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 16:53
ok, i got it . I need to write the routes then
I have been using Angular to write the routes, but if I think I can do in core javacript then i will implement it
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 16:56
yes one can, but have a look at the angular documentation
or their tutorials
oh sry they changed it
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 16:57
I know angular js.
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 16:57
no I meant that even they have a "static" documentation
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 16:57

Will Angular work with Jekyll
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 16:58
yes that is my point ..
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 16:59
Ok, I'll look into it. Till then I'll do without AJAX
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:00
I guess in theory it is possible to generate an index of all pages as json with a custom ruby plugin and then bootstrap everything with Angular ...
and my opinion is that it is 10x easier just to change the css and templates
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 17:10
Yes, it is obviously easy

(biojs-registry) BioJS got a new package: tsne
(tanzz) Hi, I'm new and I would like to contribute, can someone get me started?
(fruittie) tanzz: that is awesome to hear
(fruittie) tanzz: do you already know what you are interested in?
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:22
(tanzz) I was reading the idea page of 2014 projects
(tanzz) "Integrate BioJS into an academic publishing workflow”
(biojs-registry) BioJS got a new package: tsne
(tanzz) I got fascinated by this project
(fruittie) ehm we wont offer this project this year - however probably a very similar one
(tanzz) The best thing is that the skill set that are required in this project matches mine!
(fruittie) integration with iPython + Galaxy
(tanzz) ok.
(tanzz) What wud be the skill set needed for this
(fruittie) biojs/biojs#111
(tanzz) Thank you fruittie.
(fruittie) at the moment this project is a bit to small for a 3 months gsoc, but maybe you come up with amazing ideas how to extend it ;-)
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:29
(tanzz) ok
(tanzz) I am giving it a look :)
(fruittie) btw if someone is interested in playing around with d3
(fruittie) i am about to compile a nice growth chart for biojs.io
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 17:31
I am interested in growth chart for biojs.io.
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:32
(: so I am just crunching an stats.biojs.net service together, but the data could look like this
[ { name: 'apinatomy-core',
    created: Wed Oct 15 2014 15:53:50 GMT+0200 (CEST) },
  { name: 'bilevel',
    created: Fri Jan 23 2015 17:44:11 GMT+0100 (CET) } ]
or
{ 'apinatomy-core': Wed Oct 15 2014 15:53:50 GMT+0200 (CEST),
  bilevel: Fri Jan 23 2015 17:44:11 GMT+0100 (CET) }
whatever you prefer
sorry - i will preprocess the data more
[ { name: 'apinatomy-core',
    packages: 2
    created: Wed Oct 15 2014 15:53:50 GMT+0200 (CEST) },
  { name: 'bilevel',
    packages: 3
    created: Fri Jan 23 2015 17:44:11 GMT+0100 (CET) } ]
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 17:37
I am not getting
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:37
oh sry
so I thought about creating a chart where one has the time on the x-axes on the number of packages on y
so basically it is just a list of timestamps
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 17:39
Ok
which project is this
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:40
in progress
will be published in 5-10 minutes ;-)
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 17:40
:+1:
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:40
however if u have a fancy idea I could preprocess the data differently ...
I just thought using timestamps is the simplest
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 17:41
No idea
:worried:
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:41
(tanzz) fruittie: iPython is a new thing for me.
(fruittie) tanzz: it is never too late to learn about - it is the most popular open source scientic notebook software
(tanzz) Yeah I attended a conference where they had a talk on iPython, damm I shud not have missed that talk. :p
(fruittie) tanzz: they documentation is comprehensive - and they have documented all their design decisions as IPEPs ;-)
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 17:48
(tanzz) fruittie: Sure :)
sorry that it took me so long
and the githbu repo
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 18:41
@prasunanand do you understand the output?
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 18:44
yes, we need to plot it. We can use moment.js
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 18:45
ehm afaik momentjs only converts a timestamp to a string - are we speaking about the same?
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 18:47
Hmm, sorry
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 18:47
or do you want to use substract?
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 18:48
subtract will do
many chart libraries already accept timestamps as input - it is way easier ;-)
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 18:54
Yeah
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 18:54

Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 18:56

Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 19:09
yes
Sebastian Wilzbach
@wilzbach
Feb 02 2015 19:09
:)
then just play around
create a nice visualization and really just drop it in this folder
if you want to test the stats code locally, you can do this by node server.js
Prasun Anand
@prasunanand
Feb 02 2015 19:10
