Hello everybody, particularly those interested in participate in the GSoC. Some general advice.

First, very important, get familiar with the GSoC in general. Make sure you understand the timeline. We are now discussing ideas so you can understand better what the projects are about. Please do not expect to get "assignments" during this period. Student application and selection will come later.

Things to do during this period:

  • If you want to get familiar with BioJS, go to biojs.net and look for tutorials, go to biojs.io and see what has been done, go to PubMed and see what has been published. If you have questions/comments go to the BioJS google group, someone will reply.
  • If you like what you have found so far, then select a project that gets your attention, read it and make your best to understand the proposal. Then, contact the mentors for that project, all of the mentors for that particular project, not only one of them. Mentors work as a team.
@mpschr please use the project issues to post questions related to a particular project. Have you tried run sniper -p 9898? According to the documentation at https://github.com/biojs/sniper that seems to be way

(stripes via irc) Hi everyone, I'm currently going through the tutorial and just watched the youtube video about BioJS. The taxonomy example really interested me.
(stripes via irc) Would it be possible to use BioJS to make an in-depth evolution tree (ie showing what evolved into what)?

Hi . I am Abhinav. I am currently in a project involving graphs and matrix algorithm for visualization of high dimensional data at UPC Barcelona involving medical data. I could be of good help to this group. Where can I start contributing? Sorry if I have a late entry into the group.
