Hi @thesageinpilani There are several ways to contribute to biojs: either you help others developing the tools and resources used in the biojs community (e.g. our project website, our scaffolding tools and many more) which you can find all on github as part of the biojs organization: https://github.com/biojs

Or - which is more straightforward - you can contribute to biojs by publishing your own biojs component! If you are not familiar with building your own biojs component, you can find all the information you need on our education pages: http://edu.biojs.net/ and there is also a demo on how to create your first visualization component in biojs included in our recent biojs workshop materials here: https://biojs.net/biojs-workshop-festival-of-genomics-in-boston-2016/

Let us know anytime on slack chat or gitter if you have questions or comments regarding the learning materials and I hope you have fun starting out with biojs! :-)

Hi, I'm trying to find components on http://biojs.io/, but the registry seems to be empty? Is this the correct place to find them?

Yes it is, @nwe23_twitter - can you try reloading the page? If this still doesn't work, can you tell us in which browser this is happening?

@jessica-jordan I've tried reloading the page, still shows no entries. This is using Firefox. I also cannot access the link from https://twitter.com/BiojsLibrary/status/747524966455853056 either.

Thanks for letting me know @nwe23_twitter - our project website is down currently. I'm checking with our hosting service right now

@jessica-jordan you should still be able to access the workmen via Heroku
And you can also define a new dns subdomain for biojs.io

@wilzbach yes exactly, I checked it this morning and it still works fine on the heroku domain. What do you mean exactly with defining a new dns subdomain for biojs.io?

Hey there guys!
I was going through a list of open-source projects and came across this one.
I love the concept and would love to contribute.
However,I'm just a first year engineering student as of now and my knowledge is limited to basic Java,C++ and JS.
Can any of you sort off run me through and tell me which technologies to get familiar with so I can start contributing ASAP.
I understand that you get messages like these tons of times per day so I apologize for the inconvenience.

@SarthakKukreja no need to be sorry for asking. Biojs stands for biojavascript and hence I highly recommend learning that
Moreover biojs is about visualization and while I don't recommend the usual d3 tutorials, it's a good idea to have a look around once you are familiar with Javascript
Don't hesitate to ping us again if you have more questions ;-)

Thanks for replying @wilzbach . I've done a couple MOOCS on JavaScript so I have a basic knowledge of that.I'll start biojavascript today itself :)

Btw in general a good idea to get familiar with a project, is to help out and fix issues. Apart from learning the technologies you also get involved with the community
The biojs issue list is relatively vague, if you need a more concrete task list, you might want to have a look at individual components
My personal recommendation would be the MSAViewer as it's one of the gold standard biojs components
