@yochannah Can you check out this issue page - biojs/biojs-frontend#58 I have added some screenshot and description of the styling issues.
Nikhil Vats
@Nikhil-Vats
There are 3 search components on the website -
  1. On the homepage, in the visualisation component.
  2. On the homepage, below the popular components area.
  3. On components page
    And the first one results in many styling issues as you can see on the github issue page, so I think we can remove it. What do you think @sarthak-sehgal, @yochannah?
Shubham Awasthi
@awasthishubh

You can use this kind of search UI

instead of appending results of existing div, you can generate search results in an overlay so that existing content won't get affected.

Yo Yehudi
@yochannah
That sounds sane, but I'd like to hear what @DennisSchwartz and/or @sarthak-sehgal think first ;)
Nikhil Vats
@Nikhil-Vats
@yochannah I think you misunderstood what I meant here - biojs/biojs-frontend#58, I have explained, can you please see the explanation and suggest what should I do?
Sarthak Sehgal
@sarthak-sehgal
@Nikhil-Vats let's have a search bar on homepage and try to fix the styling as per our needs.
Maybe you can try out the UI @awasthishubh suggested and see how it looks on our website.

On the edu website, as I told it's having github icon, which need to be changed to gitlab.
But site uses fontAwsome icons version 4.3.0 which doesn't have any gitlab icon.
these are the only suported icons.
Can I upgrade fontawsome library file?
Nikhil Vats
@Nikhil-Vats
@sarthak-sehgal @yochannah I have fixed biojs/biojs-frontend#58 and sent a PR biojs/biojs-frontend#87. This fixes all the styling issues I mentioned on the issue page without removing any component. Also, there was no link in NavBar in mobiles to go to homepage so that is also added. This fixes issue 58 and 69.

Hey guys, newbie here! Just wanted to contribute to BioJS. Can I know if there are any BioPython projects this year for GSoC? I find Biopython very interesting and I did not see any projects in the list this year.
Yo Yehudi
@yochannah
hey @tmnnt! I'm not aware of any biopython projects, but it's possible they will add some. You might want to ask on a biopython mailing list?
tmnnt
@tmnnt
Awesome, could you please send me a link to their mailing list. I don't seem to find it on the website
Yo Yehudi
@yochannah
@tmnnt scroll down to the python lists here: https://news.open-bio.org/2017/12/15/mailing-list-consolidation/ - take a quick look through the three lists to decide which is active

@tmnnt
Awesome. Thanks @yochannah . Tried the first two links, both seem to work. Hopefully I get added there

@Nikhil-Vats
@sarthak-sehgal @yochannah I think it would be very helpful if we have a button which takes us to the top of page on Components page(there is infinite scrolling) and Component page(once we load readme there, it will be a long page too) and maybe on other pages as well, I opened an biojs/biojs-frontend#92 regarding this and will work on it, if you guys think its necessary.
Yo Yehudi
@yochannah
looks like a good idea to me!

@yochannah
Hey y'all! Here's my random tip of the day: When you're writing a project proposal for GSoC (or to be honest for most projects with a strict timeline) always make sure to leave time for testing / bug fixes and add some "bonus" features at the end of the timeline. If you have time to do the extra bits, that's great, but if you leave only non-essential stuff to the end, it doesn't matter if it doesn't happen if/when something goes more slowly than planned.
Nikhil Vats
@Nikhil-Vats
Thanks, will keep this in mind! @yochannah ! :)
