Hello everyone! I was wondering if there's a free version of Bitwarden for teams for open source projects? I'm currently working on a fully open source Minecraft server network where everything will be public including packer, terraform and docker files as well as our website codebase and custom plugins, I know 1password has a free team version for open source projects so I though Bitwarden maybe has the same? Thanks!
I'll add that we're not registered as a non profit for now but we plan to do so before the end of the year
Nevermind we'll use the family plan it should be enough for our project

Any thoughts on tagging PRs and Issues to a Milestone correlating with it's Release?

Yes @isleshocky77 , we have a few things to tend to from a DevOps perspective as we look to further automate our delivery and deployment pipeline. Today things are still pretty manual and we have this on our goal list once we get a FT DevOps engineer on the team (which we’re actively interviewing now). Along with that, release management and planning will start to evolve a bit over the next couple of fiscal quarters.

Hi
I'm trying to set up the local dev environment and I have a couple of questions
Abdullah Alaqeel
@AqeelAT

I'm using Rider on MacOS 10.15.6

I tried following the steps in @cscharf 's comment, but:
1- when I copy the sha1 thumbprint, it has spaces between the bytes. Do I keep the spaces?
2- when I add them to the user secrets JSON, what do I name the keys?
3- is there a specific MySQL docker image that I need to use? If not, how do I set up the database and the tables?
4- where do I put the database connection string? Is this format correct?

no, you remove the spaces.

when I add them to the user secrets JSON, what do I name the keys?

You can copy the exact JSON in the appSettings.json file to your user secrets file and just replace the values “SECRET” with your own.

3- is there a specific MySQL docker image that I need to use? If not, how do I set up the database and the tables?

No, you’ll want to use MSSQL, we’re not yet compatible with MySQL (it’s on the roadmap). We use the official one from Microsoft which can be found here: https://hub.docker.com/_/microsoft-mssql-server

4- where do I put the database connection string? Is this format correct?

Yes, there’s a ”SECRET” value you’ll replace with the connection string… here’s an example of mine: "globalSettings:sqlServer:connectionString": "Server=localhost;Database=vault_dev;User Id=sa;Password=<password>;"

@AqeelAT , in regards to the error you’re seeing, set your selfHosted to true
Abdullah Alaqeel
@AqeelAT
I fixed that, but now I'm getting: Exception: Invalid licensing certificate.
Abdullah Alaqeel
@AqeelAT
Also,
1- is there a set of temp data that we can load into the database for testing?
2- I tried calling the API and it requires authentication. How do I create a user account?
eliykat
@eliykat
@AqeelAT thank you for asking these questions because I am also going through this exact same process ;)

I fixed that, but now I'm getting: Exception: Invalid licensing certificate.

Same issue here. I assume it's related to the installation id and key, but I've already generated one of those from the bw site and put it in my user secrets.

Chad Scharf
@cscharf
@AqeelAT , @eliykat , that issue occurs because you need to ensure in your secrets file you’re setting globalSettings__selfHosted: true, which should then use the embedded licensing.cer file in the Core project directory.

otherwise it expects a Bitwarden signed certificate that we use for internal development or when hosting on our own infrastructure.

tuxiqae Hey guys, I just purchased BW Premium and I'm trying to pair my SoloKeys to my BW account to no avail, BitWarden just won't read the FIDO2.
Any idea why and how to solve it?

@tuxiqae Currently BW uses U2F (not FIDO2 yet, but we’re working on it). Our team has had success with SoloKey so perhaps there’s an ad-blocker or other privacy related extension blocking something for you?

Weird, I'm using Firefox that can't be the issue, right?

tuxiqae Tons and tons, I'll try to run a fresh profile/Chromium and let you know how that goes

Hi, I'm using the bitwarden chrome extension, and I don't find the password history. Can anyone help me with it?
eliykat
@eliykat
Hey @someone235
  • if the password was for a specific login: open the extension > click My Vault > find and click the login > you should be on the "View Item" page. If there are any previous passwords, there will be small text down the bottom of the page that says "Password history: 2" (or however many previous passwords there are). You can click the number to get a list of previous passwords.
  • if the password was generated in the password generator: open the extension > click Generator > click Password History

Hello, is there some way to install bitwarden without some installation keys/ids, I do not want my password manager to be bound to some website, and I want it to run behind a firewall so it can only access/be accessed from my local network, I do not want any external outbound/inbound connections. I tried entering nothing, but it denies the key and just exits.
jucelo
@JuCeLoDE
I also don't want anyone to know that I host an instance, nor do I want any emails associated to it ("Register your installation and contact email so that we can contact you in case of important security updates.")
matrixbot
@matrixbot
e5snenmp try the rust implementation, don’t think it requires any keys.
jucelo
@JuCeLoDE
I cannot find anything like that
Well, here atleast https://github.com/bitwarden

@matrixbot
jucelo
@JuCeLoDE
Oh thanks, I will take a look at that
It would be cool to be honest, to remove that key requirement from the official server, and just make it optional
I don't really get any reason why, other than tracking
matrixbot
@matrixbot
e5snenmp agreed
jucelo
@JuCeLoDE
Yes, some notifications, but are they really necessary, other than that, yes, premium features, but neither do I see any reason to force a key if you just want to use the non proprietary version
I don't really get the gist of having an open source project and some nonfree feautures associated even if selfhosted anyways, well, that is my way of seeing things
