Hey guys! for research purposes, is it possible to link bitwarden with another type of DB, say sqlite? so, instead of running a SQLServer one, i'd use sqlite. I don't see it in the documentation, and I think I saw in bitwarden/server#453 talking about postgres, but not sure if it was just for Postgres

o/ anyone knows whether there is any documentation on the bitwarden client side?
or the protocol used between server and client
I'm trying to hook bitwarden as a secret store to my terraform configs, and would appreciate if there was any docs/pointers on how to go about it

We have a documented public API, but it's more to do with managing users in organizations, so I'm not sure it'll expose the functionality you need: https://bitwarden.com/help/article/public-api/
I'm not sure exactly what you need to do, but you could consider just calling the CLI client from your program, that would allow you to access all functionality via scripting without having to reverse engineer the API. https://bitwarden.com/help/article/cli/

yeah, that was my option #2 if there was no public API, the idea would be to link my personal infra with bitwarden through a provider with no external binary dependencies. for now I will just set the passwords manually though given there is no straightforward way

Hey guys! So, I'm trying to understand how the autofill works with the browser extension. I don't see any connections being made to the backend, so I assume that chrome has like a storage just for the extension, and here there is some kind of DB that stores all the vault's entries? Any guidance on how i can check this and maybe tweak it ? :)

Hi guys, I'm a CE student who wants to get some experience on contributing to open source projects and I decided to start with BitWarden because it is a tool that I use a lot and I'd like to give my contribute. So, do you have any advice for a open-source-newbie? :) I'm having some troubles because I don't really know where I should start.

Yeah I think so! Go to the extension page, click on the background,html that’s there, opens the console and network tabs for the extension
Javier Domingo Cansino
@txomon
to me it appears under extension storage
not sure where exactly what you are looking for, but I can see the last generated passwords etc.

I've just been using Bitwarden a bit cleaning up my passwords, and came up with a couple of features that would be really nice. (1) Improved Search in Btiwarden, especially in Notes, highlighting the search words in the Note (or the box at right in general, making it optional). If you have a long note, it will identify the note, but there is no way to further search to find what you are looking for. (2) While we're at it, how about Find/Replace functionality? I've been using Notepad to copy/paste between to do that. Perhaps I'm just using Notes wrong... Anyhoo...

is it just me or does ctrl-w end the desktop process after the latest update?
prior to this, ctrl-w didn't end the process, it would close the window and put it in the tray
this is on windows 10
tried to find github/community posts on this but I couldn't find any
I have close to tray in settings enabled

Thoughts on this? I'm developing a "Welcome Page" which contains inputs for first_name, last_name, username, password, password_confirm with the username input being readonly and all of the fields having autocomplete of their corresponding given-name, family-name, username, and new-password. HOWEVER, when on that page and if you tell bitwarden to autofill, and fills in the last_name (family-name) with the saved username from bitwarden while filling in the two new-password fields with the saved password.

I'd really like to improve the search speed on android. Can someone point me to where to look to try to solve this problem: bitwarden/mobile#579
Thomas Rittson
@eliykat
Hey @wjhrdy, here are my recommendations:
  1. Clone a copy of the mobile repo and get it running in the Android emulator to start with. Check out any instructions in readme.md/contributing.md.
  2. The dedicated search service is in Core > Services > SearchService. However, you'd also have to have a look at where/how it's called by the other services or classes
  3. ??? work your magic
Thomas Rittson
@eliykat
If you have a large vault, that ~7 sec delay after logging in or unlocking might just be caused by decrypting your vault, which is CPU-intensive. That's done locally by design and search doesn't have anything to return until decryption is done. But you could definitely dig into it to see if that assumption is correct and if anything could be improved

Hey all. I'm new to Bitwarden and contributing. I've just downloaded the Web vault source and ran it with node, however i don't know where the dev credentials are, cold someone advise please? I've tried my own account but it just says an error occurred

Sorry just seen its failing to connect to the proxy that it created on localhost:4000. I'll read more of the docs to see whats going on :)

Thanks @mikibakaiki ! I've got the DB, API and Identity up and running now. Do i just need to insert a user into the DB to be able to login with?
João Miguel Campos
@mikibakaiki
Now, head over to the extension, change the connection settings and create a user, as if you were registering for the first time! Should be all there is to it!
You just need the api and identity links

Hey everyone. How do I go about testing the premium features in a local dev environment without having to license it?
Thomas Rittson
@eliykat
Hi @dltmurphy, as far as I know there's no way for us to provide this, sorry.

@dltmurphy
Okay no worries. I'll try licensing it

If I have a code suggestion that isn't a bug and is just for improved performance in one aspect of the bitwarden/server application should I make a GitHub issue describing the proposed change or should I make a post on the forum? I can work on the change but I don't want to waste my time if they wouldn't accept the change.
Trey Greer

Use the Forum, specifically the GitHub contributions area - that way we can help with any questions/implementation ideas.
thanks @justindbaur!
