Ches Martin
@ches
Hi folks, created a Gitter room integrated with the hackmap repo since it's pretty ripe for getting a few people collaborating on during hack nights and in between

@pangaunn
Hi.
Ches Martin
@ches

Will Fuqua
@waf
thanks!
Dylan Jay
@djay
cool
Will Fuqua
@waf
haha, you get to see me working on drag-and-drop, because it edits the coordinates in the comment, so gitter posts an update in the sidebar
Will Fuqua
@waf
I somewhat irresponsibly opened a pull request, merged it, and deployed it.
The good news is that drag-and-drop now works on mobile devices.
It has a bit of a redesign, too. The design still needs to be made responsive, but the setup is done to make that easier.
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf really liking the changes you are making. switching the image worked great
I think we might have a sizing issue with the current map. Currently the faces are too big for the tables. I can keep resizing the image but I notice that if I shrik the window the image shrinks but the faces don't
Dylan Jay
@djay
the dark blue tables should fit 4 for example. the right side tables should fit 5-6
Will Fuqua
@waf
yeah, i want to keep the click/touch targets nice and big, which is why I didn't scale them.
Is the top third of the map necessary? If we truncated it a bit the map should automatically zoom in.
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf the room at the top is part of the space we can use. its not obvious. we need to put some seats on the map I think
or a table in that room
I take your point about scaling heads too small. I guess the full size should be bigger than it is now somehow? I think the image I uploaded is bigger than the current scale though
yeah is set to 600 but natural width is 844
Dylan Jay
@djay
so either I get to set the width I'd like somehow or we max it at the images natural width
Will Fuqua
@waf
Last week I spent a few hours trying to get the size working in a "general" way that works for all possible image ratios / screen sizes. Maybe just punting the issue and allowing admins to set some width/height is the easiest way.
last hacknight's screen layout was very tall and narrow, and I wanted to avoid huge amounts of vertical scrolling, which is what happened if I did full image width.
Dylan Jay
@djay
I think scrolling is fine to get the size
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf I think adding in chairs on the map will also help so people have an idea on table size other than size relative to their head :)
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf if you look at the current map, you can see we have a problem with replies. I think whats happening is someone is replying directly the github email. I'm not really sure there is a good way to prevent that. We could filter out entries either to show only the first per user or if there is a special code. Using links to other tickets might help but won't prevent it.
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf I think we got rate limited again earlier :(
Will Fuqua
@waf
did logging in help?
Dylan Jay
@djay
oh I didn't test that
I was using it up on the big screen
I could have logged in
Will Fuqua
@waf
that would probably help. I was also developing the "drag-and-drop on top of another person resets your location" fix around 8pm, which required a lot of testing of drag-and-drop.
That may have made it worse, because there would be more updates being pushed to everyone
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf maybe we should just make it login only?
its extra incentive for people to put their project in
or possibly keep anon view as a more secret feature
Will Fuqua
@waf
We could potentially make polling happen only when the user is logged in.
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf its already pretty slow. I wonder if its people opening it all at once and then logging in
because I get up and tell everyone to do that
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf were you planning to go to the hacknight? I'm about to cancel it as ches was supposed to organise this month but hasn't done anything and I can't go this week. if you are going maybe you want to run it if jetabroad want to sponsor?
Dylan Jay
@djay
@waf ignore above. will go for other backup option
