    IRC has none of those things
    yeah
    Muneeb Ali
    @muneeb-ali
    because we wanted IRC mostly for developers
    Ryan Shea
    @shea256
    yup
    chatting on this thing is a beauty actually
    also...
    you can automatically invite everyone who stars your repos!!!!!!
    it's freaking nuts
    the integrations on this thing are perfect for github
    take a look at the node repo
    what do they link to?
    (when you scroll down)

    @shea256 But, IRC isn't controlled by any single entity, either.
    Ryan Shea
    @shea256
    but it is
    freenode
    Jude Nelson
    @jcnelson
    Not really. We could run our own IRC server, for example. Also, while freenode is centrally managed by its staff, it's built up from a non-profit network of donated IRC servers. They don't "own" IRC, nor do they own the servers themselves.

    blob
    is this what IRC looks like?
    Muneeb Ali
    @muneeb-ali
    Yeah, freenode is not a company / central authority
    Ryan Shea
    @shea256
    yes
    @guylepage3 yes
    Muneeb Ali
    @muneeb-ali
    It's a bunch of IRC servers all connected to the same network
    Guy Lepage
    @guylepage3
    Done through command line?
    Muneeb Ali
    @muneeb-ali
    and are behind a load-balancer on irc.freenode.net
    everytime you connect, you're hitting some new server
    Jude Nelson
    @jcnelson
    @guylepage3 no, you can use a graphical client
    Ryan Shea
    @shea256
    a centralized load-balancer
    Muneeb Ali
    @muneeb-ali
    how is that different from bitcoin discovery nodes?
    Ryan Shea
    @shea256
    @jcnelson and the best one is LimeChat which still sucks
    @muneeb-ali anyone can use their own discovery nodes
    also there are multiple implementations of bitcoin
    bitcoinj has different discovery nodes
    and so does btcd
    Muneeb Ali
    @muneeb-ali
    just like anyone can use their own server to connect to
    I don't need to go through the load-balancer
    I can directly connect to an IP address
    Ryan Shea
    @shea256
    yes true
    Muneeb Ali
    @muneeb-ali
    Ability to invite people who've starred your repo is huge
    also Github is where all the action is
    and this seems to be focused specifically on Github
    the interface looks great as well
    Ryan Shea
    @shea256
    yeah true
    I think that makes all the difference
    A) have an empty room on freenode
    Muneeb Ali
    @muneeb-ali
    people have the same nicknames as Github etc
    Ryan Shea
    @shea256
    B) have the ability to have everyone on github participate in the discussion and grow the community

    Hello guys. I ran into your project today and now after reading into it i'm trying to see if there's any meaningful way I could contribute. Recently, I've been working on fully automating devops that sets up scalable websites over aws, sort of like wix but with proper startup-grade structure (w/ reverse-proxy, scalable app-server/s, ssl and so on). How does something like this fit into your bigger picture and more specifically how and when do you see it happening? What would be the easiest integration that would have most impact for blockstack?
