Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
(afternoon?)
We just pushed Octopus 3.7.16, which adds support for Cloning steps
So I've just pushed a quick PR to disable that functionality in BlueFin if Octopus is 3.7.16 or higher
Also disabled the Step template integration if its 3.7.0 or higher
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
Thanks for pushing that out.
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Sure no problem. Testing is hard some times. :-)
How's it going on your end?
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
Yeah, not too bad.
though fighting with some crazy azure extension stuff
keeping me on my toes
you?
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Work going well, moving toward automating server and networking provisinging (looking at tools).
On the side, starting a small business basic web hosting service, two clients, but hope to get more. Mainly just to force me to learn a lot about AWS and Azure.
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
sounds fun (and a challenge!)
what tools you looking at?
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Of course I want to work on the server side Bluefin and start knocking out the 'features' on the issue board. So, much like work, more on my plate than can be resonably done. :-)
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
:)

Puppet mainly right now. We talked to Chef but it seems Puppet has better Windows support. I'll be talking to Atomic in a few weeks about workflow automation and what else they may be able to do.
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
Look at Ansible - its a generation 4 product
where chef/puppet are gen 3
Or even look at DSC if you're (mostly) windows
If you're talking about spinning up servers, check out packer for image building, and terraform for infrastructure provisioning
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Oooh will do. Thanks.
dragon788
@dragon788
Definitely some fun interactions between the extension and Octopus 3.7.X and higher
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
You seeing an issue?
dragon788
@dragon788
I'll have to look again (probably was an extension update and I just haven't restarted chrome for weeks), one of the filters seemed to be nesting within itself
dragon788
@dragon788
appears to be working better on the 3.8.2 instances we are running, I think the one I had issues with was 3.7.11 but I only ran that for a few days before upgrading again.
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Okay thanks for the update.
dragon788
@dragon788
it does appear the filtering in Environments isn't working quite right on our 2.6.5 server, searching for "ASAD" should only show 2-4 servers per environment, but it's showing most of them, even ones without ASAD in the name, it's like it is searching for "any" not the string as entered
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Hmm. I may look into that. It is designed to a 'contains' on the name or any role
dragon788
@dragon788
hmm, I know in PowerShell -contains vs -match trips me up every time

@matt-richardson
Heads-up, @davidroberts63 - a change has just been merged that moves to UI-Router to stop full page refreshes. I highly suspect that it will break BlueFin.
I'm gonna take a look at it in the morning, but thought it'd be worth keeping you in the loop.
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
I've just raised a PR to address the breakages
Tested against 3.5.9, 3.8.4 and the soon to be released 3.8.5
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Excellent, thanks for the heads up. I'll look at the PR in the morning.
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Okay. Now, I am looking at the three PRs.
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
:+1:
Ps - some super cool stuff in the next release. It's gonna be ace.
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Here's a question, given the updated phantomjs npm, have you found a decent solution for npms that don't actually have the binaries in the package? A solution that doesn't involve them reaching out to github?
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
(Next minor release)
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Paul is talking it up a lot on twitter.
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
No solution re binaries.
What's the concern?
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Oh, and you all are going Reactjs soon? I'd like to hear some more details on the discussion that made that happen. We are using both Angular 2 and React at work in some projects.
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
People smarter than me
(In terms of web dev at least)
David Roberts
@davidroberts63
Eh, at work we lock down our build nodes (Jenkins) so we can control what is used for the software. PhantomJs and others (node-sass) reach back out to github to get the binaries. I've resolved it for now but it's not what I wished it was.
Matt Richardson
@matt-richardson
Are you building this at work?
I just updated it so I'd get the same behaviour between browser and phantom...
