i there, i want to use sphinx and maybe the rinohtype to create pdf. But rinohtype requires python 3.x? Sphinx requires Python 2.7?
Is there a install instruction? sorry i am not python experienced
a sorry sphinx runs also on py 3.x

@nokinger Let me know if you run into any other hurdles. Glad to help.

hello
I'm having a key error while converting a document
all the documents have been successfully converted but only this one is failing.Can anyone please look into the issue
Brecht Machiels
@brechtm
Hi @Divya063. Please create an issue on rinohtype's GitHub page and provide some details. If you can attach the document, that is the easiest way. If not, see if you can find out which part of the document is causing the error. Also mention whether you're using a a custom style sheet or template.
Divya Rani
@Divya063
@brechtm The error was resolved. Thank you!
I was wondering if is there any way I can supress the warnings. Actually In the documentation we are having video directive which is not getting recognized.
The error is NotImplementedError: /home/divya/odk/odkenv/docs/src/collect-filling-forms.rst:None the 'video_node' node is not yet supported (rinoh.frontend.rst.nodes)

@Divya063 For future reference, this issue is discussed in issue #118

Hi, @brechtm, big fan of rinohtype, the output is beautiful, i love it. Although I am not sure, how long will it take to get the level of customizations possible in latex. I, for example am stuck in getting striped tables.

Hi, @brechtm, big fan of rinohtype, the output is beautiful, i love it.

Thanks, @hamzamohdzubair. I think the output could even be improved a lot with better style sheets. Alas, I haven't seen any custom stylesheets except for the couple I made myself. I suspect that, even though the styling system strongly resembles that of HTML/CSS, it might still be a bit too overwhelming for many people. I've been planning to make a tutorial to introduce some of the concepts, but I haven't found the time yet.

I, for example am stuck in getting striped tables.

The matcher defines the table body cell background on even row and table body cell background on odd row selectors. Try assigning styles to those in a custom style sheet, like this:

[table body cell background on even row]
fill_color = #00FF00

[table body cell background on odd row]
fill_color = #FF0000
Brecht Machiels
@brechtm
You can find the complete list of predefined selectors in the manual: Default Matcher. Click on the associated style to see which properties they accept. See matcher.py to see the definition for these selectors.

Before you messaged, i did manage to find TableCellBackground() and a line below it mentioning 'odd row', inside the generated .stylelog file, I was damn sure there is a simple way of manipulating this. Your answer just proved it. It's bloody elegant. When i figure this all out, I will write custom stylesheets for rinohtype, and I will help you put together a tutorial too, if you wish. Just tell me how I can help. I wish rinohtype takes over Latex soon.

@brechtm
@hamzamohdzubair Glad to hear to you're enthusiastic! :smile: If you happen to maintain a blog, you could consider writing an article about your first steps with rinohtype. This would 1) help spread the word, 2) help other users, 3) give me an insight into which hurdles new users experience. The development of high-quality style sheets for inclusion in the rinohtype distribution would be valuable as well.

Its an excellent idea, however one other thing lacking for rinohtype is also the number of questions and answers on SO. Do you think its a good idea to post the above as a question, and you can answer it, so its available to a larger audience.
I have also posted a question on fixed-width tables, i can't get :width: 100% to work

Yes, that would help too!

Thanks, @hamzamohdzubair. I will try to answer them next week. Also, stay tuned for a new release. You can already find some development releases here: https://github.com/brechtm/rinohtype/releases. The last one includes the table fixes.

hi! can rinohtype create pdf presentations?
Brecht Machiels
@brechtm
@hamzamohdzubair A massive amount of my time was sucked into configuring CI for rinohtype this week, but I've managed to answer your questions on SO. I'll address your question on maths rendering soon!

@marcusatiliusregulus

hi! can rinohtype create pdf presentations?

I guess it can, if you set up a custom paper size and have every section (slide) start on a new page (page-break). That said, it is not a use case I plan to support, since I've personally always found it clumsy to use e.g. LaTeX for authoring slides.
