Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
Lmfao you two
But that is an issue. We should make an issue. :P
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
Where's the gitter issues page
found it
gitterHQ/gitter#158
Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
We should make a PR then
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
gitter's closed source
can't
used github for issues, source isn;t there
Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
Aw.
That saddens me.
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
It's only the clients and server that are closed, the API's open
heh
Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
new Brick requirement: must run on 8-bit platforms.
lol JK
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
Shit. My master plan of using rust to work on rust is failing. Linker issues when I try to rebuild core libraries with rustc.
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
...the only reason I have to use MSYS instead of MinGW for rust is for ./configure, eh?
QUESTION: Am I crazy for thinking that it would be better to rewrite the configure script in powershell than to install and be forced to use cygwin?
Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
i have no idea
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
configure script is only like 1000 lines of code
I'll rewrite it in powershell.
Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
lol do it
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
I'll do it
I'm crazy
And write lots of powershell
A terrifying blend of crazy with crazier
The real question is what an appropriate replacement for printf is.
note to self: must remember to replace all \n with `n
err
`
...newlines are weird.
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
1/5th of the way there kinda
some things are really unnecessarily verbose because I've been rewriting line by line
rather than to function
Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
ah
Zachary Elliott
@zellio
it should just be in batch
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
that would be
so bad
Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
let’s talk about asynchronicity
brick, as a parallel, concurrent, language, already lends itself to async operations.
the repurcussions with introducing imperitive control flow constructs into a functional language is many-fold
Katherine Whitlock
@toroidal-code
also, async/await really sounds like a 2.0 feature.
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
async/await was a really, really late feature in C#, C++, ES6
However
If Promises are a v1 feature, implementing async/await on top of them is trivial
as the ES6 sugar has shown us
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
*ES7
*Sweet
Wesley Wigham
@weswigham
though you don't get the full benefits of using continuations under the hood if you do the macros-processing-into-promises step
