@richardcloudsoft I think ive run into this … 2 secs ill check my last clocker install (it was similar to what you are trying to do)
Richard Downer
@richardcloudsoft
actually I think I’ve just got it
clue is in the error message “at least one host must be defined” - I think it’s interpreting byon as defining a byon location, not as using the location named byon
yes, confirmed - renaming the named location to my-byon and Clocker is now starting up
Mark McKenna
@m4rkmckenna
nice
Richard Downer
@richardcloudsoft
I seem to be a step further on now. Thanks for rubber ducking :smile:
Andrew Donald Kennedy
@grkvlt
@richardcloudsoft thanks for testing this out - it's good to see that the Docker image for Clocker works.
WDYT about making a Brooklyn image as well? We would add a Dockerfile to the brooklyn-dist/dist project and set up an automated build on Docker Hub. Then Clocker can just extend the existing Brooklyn Dockerfile with its own config plus Jar and War files; similarly for AMP.
John McCabe
@johnmccabe
+1 to an official image
there are currently 4 or 5 self rolled images on the hub
Andrew Donald Kennedy
@grkvlt
brooklyncentral/brooklyn:0.9.0-SNAPSHOT ???
(what are the other images, btw? interested to see their Dockerfile setup...)
I'll nuke mine
Andrew Donald Kennedy
@grkvlt
no, it's interesting. they are actually all different...!
Richard Downer
@richardcloudsoft
@grkvlt yes seems to be working - it successfully deployed a Calico-based Docker cluster to a couple of BYON nodes (which were created by @johnmccabe’s Vagrantfile - teamwork :smile: ) A blessed Docker Hub image for Brooklyn would probably be a good low-friction way for a certain audience to try out Brooklyn. I’m all for low-friction ways of people trying out Brooklyn!

@m4rkmckenna
+1 for a canonical image

Interesting, most (including my clockercentral/clocker image) use gliderlabs/alpine:3.1 (or less specific) but andrea used java:7-jre instead, should check which is most efficient
John McCabe
@johnmccabe
I think the important thing is that I win with the smallest image
Andrew Donald Kennedy
@grkvlt
;)
Andrea Turli
@andreaturli
I created that image long time ago before alpine hype
John McCabe
@johnmccabe
excuses excuses :)
Andrea Turli
@andreaturli
I've recently seen azul image for java app
Mark McKenna
@m4rkmckenna
alpine before it was cool :smile:
Oh, you posted an imagelayers link too! I'm too slow :frog:
John McCabe
@johnmccabe
have you used that true image yet mark
Mark McKenna
@m4rkmckenna
@johnmccabe I have actually
125 bytes
Andrew Donald Kennedy
@grkvlt
BTW, imagelayers lies. My Clocker image is not 210 MiB because I delete the tgz file, for example, so it's more like 70-80 MiB or at least less than 100 MiB
John McCabe
@johnmccabe
@andreaturli these the azul images you mentioned? https://hub.docker.com/r/azul/zulu-openjdk-debian/tags/
Andrea Turli
@andreaturli
Yes @johnmccabe. Ive seen some blog posts mentioning it but never tried
I think it is based on alpine anyway

@googlielmo
Hi @/all I just opened #273 installDevUrandom=true does not work on Docker hosts. I observed this on Ubuntu on the CenturyLinkCloud location but should happen on jclouds locations too.

@/all are there any yaml examples showing container volume linking being used?
Geoff Macartney
@geomacy
@johnmccabe by volume linking do you mean stuff like "docker ... -v ${HOME}/.certs:/certs:ro "
links section
John McCabe
@johnmccabe
ah thanks @svet I'd already spoken to @grkvlt, that link example you pasted is for host linking not volumes btw (already using that for a wordpress/mysql/haproxy app)
Svet
@neykov
right, my bad
so is there such a functionality?
John McCabe
@johnmccabe
yes - docker.container.volumes.import
Svet
@neykov
thanks

@andreaturli

FYI I’m trying a plain docker approach for that, and it looks like the following

sudo docker volume create --name tendermint-common-volume
sudo docker run -d -v tendermint-common-volume:/data/tendermint andreaturli/tmbase /bin/bash -c "
          cd /data/tendermint;
          curl -L https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/brooklyn-tendermint/basecoin.tgz -o application.tgz;
          tar zxf application.tgz;
          rm application.tgz;
          cp /root/.tendermint/priv_validator.json /data/tendermint/core/priv_validator.json;"

and another container can use the same volume later on by using

sudo docker run -d --name tendermint-data -v tendermint-common-volume:/data/tendermint andreaturli/tmbase /bin/bash -c "/data/tendermint/data/init.sh"
I think docker volume is now the recommended way instead of data-container, but not sure it is useful for you @johnmccabe
John McCabe
@johnmccabe
thats what its doing under the hood I believe
