I guess using ref is the more react-like way
Finddomnode is the way before refs were a thing yes
CreateRef is the new proper way now

I was wondering about how to access the component's top element in React, found the findDOMNode in ReactDOM and it worked. Turned out this was the legacy way and using ref is the way to go :)
