    Essentially I would like to try to get some kind of person detection or facial detection solution running. But am not sure if there are other solutions out there do that with motioneye or not

    @MYeager1967
    Are you using any kind of home automation? You gotta paint the big picture if you want suggestions...

    @dj1635
    I am currently running Home assistant for my home automation software. That runs on machine A it is not super powerful. Machine B will house motion eye and is powerful. The idea would be, when the system is armed and motion (preferably an actual person and not a false positive) is detected that would signal to home assistant to alert the users. I would also want the recorded videos to be uploaded to the cloud (motion eye does this with google drive). From what I've experienced with motioneye it does a rather good job but since the cameras are outdoors, weather, wildlife etc can trip the motion. I am running motion eye in docker and would like the second tier of detection (person/facial detection) be also a docker container. I've tried zoneminder and shinobi and wasn't impressed with the amt of setup for what you get, hence why i am circling back to motioneye.

    Ok. Now we're getting somewhere. First, the easiest way to communicate with HA from motionEye is MQTT. If you're using ONVIF cameras, look into ONVIF-motion-events. It's a little routine that runs in docker that monitors the cameras for motion events and takes motion detection off of motionEye. Saves a lot of processor time. Then, for object detection, you have multiple options. There's Frigate that is apparently able to process a live feed. I am using DOODS as I didn't seem to catch as much as I figured I would with Frigate. Haven't played with it again lately Look into another program that runs along side HA called Appdaemon. Allows you to write your automation in python instead of HA's scripting language. Way more powerful.

    Thank you @MYeager1967, your suggestions are super helpful! I think I am going to go the frigate route and set it up to where it will monitor the camera feeds, and if it detects a person, it will signal to motion eye to start and stop recording. (using home assistant as the in between). Thank you!!

    @MYeager1967
    Hopefully you have better luck with Frigate than I did. I will go back and look at it again one of these days. You'll need to look into the web control interface to do what you want to do. It's really easy though.

    Greetings: First time board query. I am using a motionEye version 0.42.1 docker in Unraid. Using four Amcrest Model IP8M-T2499E cameras with motion detection. I have set up cameras with motion detection and have read every setting several times, but I'm missing something. Two things are happening. #1- On "dark" mode, unless the action happens really close to the camera, it doesn't see the action and start recording. #2- Under "Movies" setting, I have Recording Mode set to "Motion Triggered" and Maximum movie length set to "180 seconds". None of my video clips last three minutes. What do you think?
    MYeager1967
    @MYeager1967
    None of your videos are going to last 3 minutes unless the motion event lasts that long. How are you triggering the recording in motionEye? You said you set up motion detection on the cameras. I have several of the exact same cameras and I use the motion detection of the camera itself to start and stop the recording in motionEye. I set my max movie length to zero. Motion events never last that long....

    Hello, I need urgent help, I just installed ME on NAS with Openmediavault system, after many hours of configuring I finally recording... Just I downloaded records and I can't play them anywhere even on ME page when I double click it.
    They are recorded in HEVC H265 (I play movies with the same codec in VLC), there is an only black screen but the video is playing.
    MYeager1967
    @MYeager1967
    Use H264...
    LMRig
    @LMRig
    I need to save some space (a lot of cameras), H265 is pretty helpful with that
    And why just videos from ME doesn't play
    And I also bought cameras with H265 because I needed it
    MYeager1967
    @MYeager1967
    I can't answer that, but when I tried to use H265, I had the same result. Apparently, motionEye doesn't handle H265 well at this time
    LMRig
    @LMRig
    Oh :-X
    Thanks for your answer, at least I know it's "normal"...
    But... Wait. Is this really problem with ME? When I have set to save directly files from the camera, ME should not touch anything about codecs or anything like that?
    Movie Passthrough ON
    LMRig
    @LMRig
    I tested it and H264 really works, but it takes 1.7GB for 1hour of record!!! God... H265 only ~850MB...
    MYeager1967
    @MYeager1967
    Well, record in h265 then, even if you can't use it for anything. It makes no difference how much space you save if the file isn't viewable...

    Does motioneye have an official feature request method?
    MYeager1967
    @MYeager1967
    You go to the github and ask. Depending on what youd like to see added, you may or may not get anywhere.

    Do you guys have any advice on how to play back recorded videos?
    what client should i use? I want a interface where i can scroll through a timeline. Vlc is not cutting it
    i use motioneye on a server, not motioneyeos

    Hello, is there a way to save snapshots as png or tif files as opposed to jpegs? Thanks
    MYeager1967
    @MYeager1967
    Nickybroke, the webcontol interface has to be enabled in the config file. It's also important to know if you're using it from the same machine (local machine) or not. Its in the docs but its a little confusing at times.

    Hey guys. I'm wanting to try and filter out some false positive recordings using Deep Stacks AI. I'm trying to figure out how I can delete images/movies that I find don't have moving cars or people in them. I looked at the REST API but didn't see a way to do this. Can someone tell me if I can send a web request to delete certain media items?

    @ccrisan I have recently set the motion eye on my raspberry pi and I tried integrating with dropbox to store the files. When I click on ObtainKey it doesn't route me to the right URL to get the access key. looks like something is broken? i tried installing motioneyeos and my other Pi and there it works fine. Am i missing something ?

    I've spent a lot of time 'playing' with motioneyeOS on Raspberry Pis. I've used Ubuntu/Mint for years in preference to Windoze. Currently Mint 18.3 on a 2011 Toshiba Portege that I bought second-user (unused ex-lease) in 2014.

    Having been given a birdbox-cam (USB Webcam inside), I'm duty bound to set it up. It's now mounted in a suitable location with USB cable run indoors to where an old laptop can be set-up to record avian visitors so we can show the donors (when permitted) what a thoughtful gift...

    The 'old' laptop is an almost unused 2003-4 Toshiba Satellite Pro A10 (Celeron, 512Mb, 40Mb, XP SP1) with a huge square screen. A lovely 'antique' in mint condition and perfect working order.
    Motioneye is the obvious choice, but what lightweight distro to use? Ubuntu/Mint use too much memory even with xcfe.

    I'm too old to spend days learning how to fix loads of low-level problems with installing Motioneye under a minority distro.
    Can anyone suggest a suitable lightweight, mainstream, distro please?

    With the comming of 5G, it would be nice to have the faster compressions. Not MJPEG, but those new onces. Most of my cam all can handle network througput, but MJPEG is the limiting factor atm. We should use H264. I think MotionEye is ready for that.

    Heyo, I was wondering if there is a way to lower the network usage that viewing motioneye has. Stream compression or something? while looking at the motioneye page I can see network usage as high as 200mb/s and would like to reduce it. I found the resolution dimmer to be a good way of doing so but when enabled I get pretty bad lag on all feeds

    Not sure if anyone has touched on this but I have my camera set on my garage and it doesn't seem to pick up anything passed about 20 feet. I'm sure this is a settings issue but I can't seem to figure it out. Anyone have a camera that I'd able to detect movement at around 20-30 feet? I can literally walk around in front of our door and it trigger a motion event. Fram change threshold is at 1.2% Maximum Change Threshold is at 5 and minimum motion frame is at 3
