    Greetings,
    I am interested in working on OpenCensus for the Google Summer of Code 2018

    @tahgoody
    I will love to contribute to the Erlang or PHP library

    That's great, what would you like to work on? If you need ideas, you can check with Jeff Ching for PHP and @tsloughter for Erlang. Make sure to submit your proposal to be considered for GSoC. You are always welcome to continue contributing to the projects via GitHub.

    @tsloughter is already on the scene then. I will go through the OpenCensus spec and Erlang library and return with any questions

    Hello, Myself Vishwas Mittal, CSE Sophomore at IIT Roorkee, India. I saw OpenCensus in GSoC Orgs list. I really like it and would love to contribute in it. Can you please help me get started? I like programming in Python and by now I have good experience with Django.

    I can work on

    1. Develop Python stats library for OpenCensus, or
    2. Instrument/Integrate OpenCensus with other opensource frameworks (django).

    Can anyone help me get started?

    @tahgoody I forgot to note. an area of integration that could use work is grpc client instrumentation. I have a grpc server instrumention started but the existing grpc client has no way of adding interceptors and so will be a larger project

    @vishwas78 @rushbah123453 @sakshambassi If you are looking to participate on GSoC, you should start thinking about writing up a proposal on a topic of your interest. The timeline for submissions are listed here: https://developers.google.com/open-source/gsoc/timeline The team will review and accept a proposal that fits the project and you can then contribute as part of GSoC. The topics currently listed are some ideas but i think, its too high level. I suggest you look at the current state of development on github: https://github.com/census-instrumentation
    Here are some topics we are looking for contributions:
    • Examples, usecases
    • zPages
      -- Generic cross lang infra
      -- Better UX
    • Convert static website to use markdowns, hugo template
    • Java specific :
      -- Tag injection annotation
    • Exporters
    Note that GSoC runs for 10-12 weeks. you need to pick something that is small enough to be completed in this period.
    Look at open issues under each repo https://github.com/census-instrumentation ..see if you want to resolve them by submitting a PR

    Look at stats, trace implementation in Java and Go as reference and see if you can find gaps in other languages that you want to fill

    @rushbah123453
    @tags07 the topics are intresting , but is their anything in cloud computing too?
    Gopi Palaniappan
    @tags07
    rushbah123453@ could you elaborate what you mean by cloud computing? Are you interested in integrating OpenCensus with client libraries?
    rushbah123453
    @rushbah123453
    @tags07 as mentioned in the github repo, opencensus will collect data from app and send it to backend services, is their any opportunity to work in this
    @tags07 I have experience in springboot+jdbc+kenesisDataStream(analytics)+androidDevelopment(frontend)+AWS+web development. I am searching something that can utilize all my skills.

    Sure, we need exporters for several languages, examples that showcase multiple microservices ..may be with cloud backends..
