    Good evening, I'm interested into the Node branch of development but the repo seems empty, where can I know more?
    Sahil Mhapsekar
    @apherio
    @MikaelMello the complete library has to be implemented looking at others which are available.Even I am looking out for the node branch to be developed
    Mikael Mello
    @mikaelmello
    @apherio , that certainly makes things interesting, will look into it, thanks!
    Mikael Mello
    @mikaelmello
    Hello @tags07 , I'd like to ask what kind of experience is expected from someone that intends to work on the Node library or to help on the C++ library
    Gopi Palaniappan
    @tags07
    @MikaelMello more than experience, we are looking for what you can deliver. I listed some topics we need contributions around. Since this is a 3month engagement your projects need to be small enough so it can be completed before the evaluation date. This also means you cannot take on something thats more complex and long-term projects.. creating core libraries from scratch falls into that bucket...unless you can show that you already made some progress.

    Student Proposals
    Student Proposal Submission period: March 12-27
    Starting next week students will be able to submit their proposals via the program website. Each student may submit up to 3 proposals to the program. This is a change from last year when we allowed 5 proposals. They can submit multiple proposals to the same organization for different projects if they wish.

    Historically, the students with the best proposals reach out to the orgs early to receive feedback before submitting their final proposal - those students who have already been reaching out to you are likely to be among your best student options this year.

    Post Student Proposal Period: March 27 - April 8
    Students must submit their final proposal as a PDF through the website. It will be visible to mentors/org admins after the deadline for student applications (March 27 16:00 UTC). We will make our decisions on which students to accept based on the contents of the final PDF proposal and our interactions with the student.

    @freddygv
    @tags07 are proposals submitted on a rolling basis? Or is the timing not particularly important as long as they're in before the deadline?
    Freddy
    @freddygv
    Sorry meant evaluated not submitted
    Gopi Palaniappan
    @tags07
    @freddygv As per the timeline : https://summerofcode.withgoogle.com/how-it-works/#timeline , Evaluations happen between Aug 14th and Aug 21, but i am guessing if you work closely with your mentor, you may get informal feedback on how things are going.
    Did you mean evaluation after the proposal has been accepted or evaluation of the proposal itself?... the above info is for proposals that have been accepted. As for timeline for proposals itself.. they get reviewed between: March 27, 2018 - April 23, 2018 .No projects are accepted for GSoC 2018 after April 23rd. You are welcome to submit them and contribute to OpenCensus, but it would be part of GSoC 2018 program.
    Freddy
    @freddygv
    Yes I meant evaluation of the proposals. Thank you!

    For folks interested in working on the website, Checkout the new website..it just went live: https://opencensus.io
    We are looking for folks who can convert this static website into hugo, support markdown pages, enable anyone to click edit link to make changes on github and send in a PR to merge updates.
    We are looking at quickstart pages for Python, PHP, Ruby and Erlang
    We need more examples that showcase complex microservices, GCP integrations
    Vishwas Mittal
    @vishwas78
    are you expecting a student to do all this work or just a part of it?
    @tags07
    Gopi Palaniappan
    @tags07
    @vishwas78 i don't expect one person to do it all. These are my wish list. You are welcome to take one or more and submit them as your proposal. I also intentionally left it open ended, for different student to submit different examples and usecases

    @shinytang6
    Hi all! l have observed your talks for some day and it seems that some of the idea here https://storage.googleapis.com/summer-of-code/OpenCensusIdeasList.pdf is too complex to apply for? l am confused about what kind of project will you accept? l am experienced with node and know something about golang. Can l send a proposal on improving the existing opencensus-go or any recommendation?
    Adarsh Menon
    @adarsh1021
    Hello ! I am Adarsh from Kerala, India. I have experience in Django , so looking forward to integrating OpenCensus into that. Looking forward to making a difference with code :)
    Gopi Palaniappan
    @tags07
    @shinytang6 I havnt updated the original list. I agree that list was a bit of a stretch for a GSoC engagement. Here's the new wish list I had posted earlier:
    Here are some topics we are looking for contributions:
    • Examples, usecases
    • zPages
      -- Generic cross lang infra
      -- Better UX
    • Convert static website to use markdowns, hugo template
    • Java specific :
      -- Tag injection annotation
    • Exporters
    @adarsh1021 have you contributed to Django before? One of the issue with integrating with 3rdparty frameworks is we need to engage with the maintainers so your contributions can be accepted. Having prior experience contributing the frameworks would definitely help.
    Adarsh Menon
    @adarsh1021
    @tags07 Oh I have never made any contribution to Django. I have experience in developing in it. I understand your concern

    Hi all.
    I hope I am not much late to the work around.
    I am pretty interested in Hugo and the project of developing new features for the website.
    I have noticed the huge change in the website (It looks just great) . but couldn't find the source anywhere in the github repos
    The old website was missing a lot, and I was drafting some to do with GSoC. but I guess with the new website I am kinda confused
    ( the changes is here [census-instrumentation/opencensus-website#30] . I didn't check the pull requests )
    Gopi Palaniappan
    @tags07
    The website sources have been updated now. it was heldup due to CLA signature.. its all merged and available now.
    The new website is just static html pages. Need to convert them to hugo pages..

    Thank you...Where can i find details about these projects?
    Gopi Palaniappan
    @tags07
    @Prem-kumar27 Here's our website: https://opencensus.io and here's our git repos: https://github.com/census-instrumentation . What specific detail were you looking for? you can also reach out to the mentors if you need clarification. For Java it would be Dino and Python would be Angela
    Nadeeshan Gimhana
    @NGimhana
    Hello, I'm an undergraduate of Computer Science and Engineering of University of Moratuwa. I'm interest in the project "Instrument/Integrate OpenCensus with other opensource frameworks" in GSoC. How can I begin contributing? How to gather requirements ?
    Further Is there any particular format of the proposal ? If so sharing here will be so helpful most of us,
    Gopi Palaniappan
    @tags07
    @NGimhana Here's the Student Guide: https://google.github.io/gsocguides/student/
    Have a look at the documentation on https://opencensus.io and code on github: https://github.com/census-instrumentation
    Think about what problem you are solving, what is missing today and how OpenCensus can help
