Hi all, can someone remind me if we can directly search for references to open data (doi's) in inspire or else where? Thanks :smile:
Tibor Šimko
@tiborsimko
Yes, via reference:... search on INSPIRE, e.g. try the following one http://inspirehep.net/search?ln=en&p=reference%3A10.7483%2FOPENDATA.CMS -- It may not be the most precise way to get everything though...

Thanks!

Good morning team RECYCLE (@tiborsimko @okraskaj @sefeg ), I've picked up our small bike2work gifts from the library and will bring them next week to our team lunch. I hope you had /will have a very good start in this 2 month challenge. Don't forget to keep our team calendar up to date. Have a nice weekend!

You may also be interested to know that Jesse Thaler gave a talk at the https://science.osti.gov/hep/hepap/Meetings/201905 ("The Physics Landscape in 2019") and made some nice mentions of CERN open data (and the portal) starting at slide 43: https://science.osti.gov/-/media/hep/hepap/pdf/201905/Thaler-Physics_Landscape-in-2019_HEPAP201905.pdf

FYI the collision type facet finally deployed on DEV: http://opendata-dev.cern.ch/search We can think of checking and enriching existing records (and muse about fixed target datasets (NA48 possibly coming) and OPERA neutrino events (already there)

Hi folks! I know I'm not officially involved with the project, but if you need any text/content reviewed for grammar, style, consistency etc., please ping me in the relevant PRs. :) I'm usually checking them but might miss some!
Kati Lassila-Perini
@katilp
Thanks, that's really appreciated!

@RaoOfPhysics Thanks, we may have a new release announcement coming, it would be great if you could have a look at that one :wink:

Was there a solution for the bad display of MD in the search view for doc pages? Was it an alternate text or just avoiding anything special at the start of the page?
Tibor Šimko
@tiborsimko
There was an issue cernopendata/opendata.cern.ch#1947 that Heitor apparently wrongly closed... I'm at a meeting but I'll check later

Yes, we are using Mistune with code highlighter, it should work, but it's been a while... I can test
OK so I had a look and Python code is displayed all gray in the example we have in http://opendata-dev.cern.ch/docs/cms-getting-started-2010 so we'd need to dig deeper into the highlighting extension...
Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
Thanks, @tiborsimko. In the PR, I added the language tags, for the future! :)

@tpmccauley If you are around Bldg 40, please come over to 40/R-B10 if you have a minute anytime this afternoon, we can talk about finalising Higgs candidate event dataset naming live, that would be easiest
Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
@katilp, I've been asked to edit @tpmccauley's nice article so we can upload it to home.cern. I wanted to know when you planned on releasing the data, so I can plan my workload accordingly. Many thanks!
Kati Lassila-Perini
@katilp
We are just finishing the last open issues this week, getting below 10 soon :smile: . The DOIs are still to be minted, @tiborsimko may have the best estimate whether it is feasible this week or next week.
Tibor Šimko
@tiborsimko
I hope everything should be ready by the end of next week

@tpmccauley
@tiborsimko I only now just saw your message.
A good reminder to reinstall gitter on my phone. @tiborsimko I am still around today
Tibor Šimko
@tiborsimko
Ah, I see which message you are referring to :wink: The derived dataset issue is solved now, using DocDB version as unique identifier. So that's OK...
Tom McCauley
@tpmccauley
@tiborsimko I just saw the date on the message. Thought it was something new. It's been a long day...

@RaoOfPhysics
@tiborsimko, so we're aiming for tomorrow? I need to edit the piece today, then, and send it back to CMS for approval. On it. Please let me know (by e-mail?) if this changes. Thanks!
Tibor Šimko
@tiborsimko
Nope, "the end of next week" means one more week :wink: There's still quite a few things to do, see kanban https://github.com/orgs/cernopendata/projects/1

@katilp, @tiborsimko, @tpmccauley, @suenjedt: Look what arrived at my desk!
I need to write to them to let them know what licence to release the chapter under. They asked if we prefer CC BY-NC-ND or CC BY-ND. I wanted to say we'd prefer CC BY-SA, but only if you all agree.
Kati Lassila-Perini
@katilp
:+1: CC BY-SA fine with me
Tibor Šimko
@tiborsimko
Nice, took about four years... I'm OK with CC-BY-SA or with CC-BY, which are both preferable to CC-BY-ND, which is preferable to CC-BY-NC-ND in my eyes...
Achintya Rao
@RaoOfPhysics
Thanks, both. :)

Since jupyter notebooks used quite a bit in context of opendata thought to ask here: any ideas / solutions for jupyter notebook CI?
Tibor Šimko
@tiborsimko
I like papermill that is handy to make notebooks easily parametrisable. Then you can run papermill -p ... in your CI recipe, using some small test data, to make sure that the notebook is still producing expected results. For example, see our reana-demo-worldpopulation reproducible analysis example which tests notebook using the following Travis CI configuration: https://github.com/reanahub/reana-demo-worldpopulation/blob/master/.travis.yml

@tpmccauley
Thanks @tiborsimko . Will take a look.

@jpata
Hi all! I hope you don't mind me contacting you here. I'm using a derived NanoAOD-like dataset (using aod2nanoaod by Stefan Wunsch) from CMS open data AOD for benchmarking an analysis tool, and I would like to make the derived datasets (~200GB) publicly accessible. I would like to check informally with you if you see any problems with uploading such derived dataset son zenodo, as long as CC0, the citation guidelines are followed and disclaimers about not using them for physics analysis are put up.
Kati Lassila-Perini
@katilp
Hi Joosep! Glad to hear, for anything derived from the open data, no problem at all, sounds great! For publications on open data by CMS members, you are certainly aware of the internal guidelines. Thanks!
Joosep Pata
@jpata
thanks - much appreciated!

Hey all, may I benefit more from the knowledge in the OpenData team? I'm looking to create a private, CMS-internal dump of the conddb in order to speed up some development work by avoiding costly calls across the network. I was wondering, how do you create the db dumps in /cvmfs/cms-opendata-conddb.cern.ch/, would you be willing to share the scripts?
Kati Lassila-Perini
@katilp
Hi @jpata ! I have not done it myself, Giacomo Govi has done it for us. I hope he can help :smiley:
Joosep Pata
@jpata
many thanks! I'll ask him!
