Awesome let me first follow you!
Done.
See, I have been trying to install ChocolateyGui
And I always get the error "Chocolatey version could not be detected. Either Chocolatey is not installed or we cannot access it."
I found many solutions online. I tried them out, but no success.

I have installed many things, and most of them work perfectly.
But in the case of Atom for example, it was downloaded and installed but I can't find it on my PC. Am I missing something?

Feb 16 2015 10:39
looks like atom installs using a "shim". Close the command window or powershell window that you have open, and then open it again
once you have done that, simply type atom
and it will load up the latest version
once opened, you should be able to pin the opened application, or create a shortcut to it, and use it going forward

@JETeran
Feb 16 2015 10:40

I have been experimenting with it recently actually, but it is not my default yet. I am a long time Notepad++ user, but have been thinking about switching.

Ha!
Good to know. Yes N++ is pretty good. I touch some months ago sublime and pretty awesome.
Specially because you have all those packages that can easily adapt to you dev needs.
But it's not free.
And now I want to touch Atom, looks like is pretty much the same as ST, but free

I typically just use the built in windows search when looking for applications, i.e. hit windows, type notepad, hit enter

Yes.
Yes I do it too.
But something good is that this remembers all. So next time you want to open Unity, just typing U and Enter will take you there.

@gep13
Feb 16 2015 11:03
ah, nice!

Yes. And oh, it has an addon for calculator!

Oh can I shoot one more Q to you?
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
Feb 16 2015 11:30
with regard to your question...
if you have an application already installed (i.e. you manually installed the exe or msi) and then you install it via Chocolatey, two things could happen, and really it is package dependent...
the first thing is that it will all go smoothly. Chocolatey will attempt the installation, the package will realise it is already installed and all that will happen is that the application will be added to Chocolatey internal list of applications, so going forward, you can then do choco update <packagename>
it could go wrong though...
in which case, the application attempts an installation, it doesn't like being installed again, and throws an error, which is then reported by Chocolatey
in this scenario, you would need to first uninstall teh application manually, and then re-install with chocolatey
this doesn't happen very often though, but it is something to watch out for

@ferventcoder so it was you that told me about Launchy then :-P
Rob Reynolds
@ferventcoder
Feb 16 2015 15:31
@gep13 I use Alfred (OS X) and Launchy (Windows) - both awesome tools
@gep13 @JETeran so with new choco, it has the ability to skip powershell, so you can pretend it was installed with choco.
