RianM
@RianM
Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew anything about a suggestion made on the Chocolatey google group that was recommended to be made on the ChocolateyGui google group.
Labelled: "Suggestion for Chocolatey GUI: Show Chocolatey counterparts to already installed software"
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
@RianM can't say I have seen that suggestion, no.
do you have a link?
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
ah, I have a vauge recollection of it, however, I don't think it was discussed further
RianM
@RianM
I'm maintaining some pcs for friend and this morning I thought that such functionality would be useful, so naturally i went out to go see if anyone has done it already.
Glad to see someone mentioned the suggestion but it's a shame to hear it wasn't discussed further
Would be neat =D

@dragon788
@RianM using http://alternativeto.net would be one option, though sometimes they have suggestions that aren't always relevant (eg OSX software suggested if you are on Windows)
sometimes just searching the tags works, though that can be hit or miss since not every author adds tags and there isn't really a good way to do it from the feed

@mwallner
hey @RichiCoder1 - any ideas how long till feature/Framework_Overhaul gets merged back to develop?
dragon788
@dragon788
@RianM Also, if you upgrade to Chocolatey Professional it can actually "take over" any software that has a Chocolatey installer and allow you to manage it through the choco commands. https://chocolatey.org/docs/features-synchronize https://chocolatey.org/compare
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
@mwallner it is on my list of things to do. I have seen the PR's that you have been raising on the repo, and I want to get to them as well. Just need to check a few other things off my todo list first, and then I will be able to focus again on ChocolateyGUI
Pascal Berger
@pascalberger
Are packages downloaded with Install-ChocolateyVsixPackage packed?
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
@pascalberger sorry, not sure I follow what you mean. Can you elaborate?
Pascal Berger
@pascalberger
I've the strange issue that asssuming VsixUrl = "https://devexpress.gallerycdn.vsassets.io/extensions/devexpress/coderushforroslyn/16.1.9/1479316540606/163212/20/DevExpress.CodeRush.Roslyn-16.1.9.vsix" I end with a zip file in the temp directory
The zip file contains the actual vsix file
Resulting in failing checksum validation
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
@pascalberger and what does this have to do with ChocolateyGUI?
Pascal Berger
@pascalberger
Oops, wrong channel :) Sorry
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
ha ha, no worries :-D
Manfred Wallner
@mwallner
@gep13 I know this sounds stupid, but would it be possible to make the next ChocoGui skip version 0.14.x? - I've been playing around with it a lot lately an just realized today that I've installed a (modifies) 0
0.14.1 version at a couple of colleges PC's (30+) :worried: - skipping 0.14.x would do me a great favor ...
What the.. can't fix typos in Gitter/Android??
@gep13 I'd suggest the Feature_Overhaul branch is 'big enough' to declare it's merge a reason to do a major version increase :smile:
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
@mwallner I am sure that we can arrange something. Not sure when I am going to get to ChocolateyGUI, need to sort out a few other things first, but then I aim to tackle it and get a release out
Manfred Wallner
@mwallner
@gep13 ++

Walter Wojciechowski
@wallywojo
anyone aware of what causes many weird packages to appear when adding your own repo to sources in Choco GUI?
dragon788
@dragon788
@wallywojo do you have a screenshot to show an example?
Walter Wojciechowski
@wallywojo
thanks in advance, looks like this:

dragon788
@dragon788
can you throw in a screenshot of your Chocolatey/Nuget sources list as well, either run choco source or open the ChocoGUI and snag the list from there?
Walter Wojciechowski
@wallywojo
dragon788
@dragon788
are you using Nuget.Server or some other Nuget host for the internal feed? it seems like maybe it is publishing package fields that it shouldn't be as separate packages
Walter Wojciechowski
@wallywojo
i am using ProGet but have it configured as a chocolatey feed. yes i have no idea from where it is pullling this information
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
@wallywojo what happens if you do choco search --source http://...
do those entries come back?
Walter Wojciechowski
@wallywojo
odd, yes they do. If for example i do search google --by-id-only i get 359 items even when specifiying only my local private repo
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
ChocolateyGUI is driven directly by the results that it gets back from calling Chocolatey directly, so looks like the underlying issue here is something in Chocolatey combined with ProGet
can you do the same test with the --source of chocolatey.org, as per your output from choco source
do you get stray entries from that?
Walter Wojciechowski
@wallywojo
agree, just wondering if anyone was familiar with it
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
certainly doesn't ring any bells for me, but I haven't used ProGet in a while
Walter Wojciechowski
@wallywojo
nevermind, figured it out. by default ProGet had a nuget connector and this was introducing many public gallery packages to appear as if they were local. disabling that connector makes it appear as expected. thanks for the assistance and hope this helps someone out in the future if they are newbie like me.

Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
glad to hear that you got this figured out!
dragon788
@dragon788
Makes sense that the public nuget is probably a bit cluttered
Richard Simpson
@RichiCoder1
I swear I have a love/hate relationship with this build system.
aslkdajdlkajskldjaslkdjasld yes yes yes green build finally
Gary Ewan Park
@gep13
@RichiCoder1 what were the main issues that you were seeing?
