Question: would this be a better forum to talk about the API/frontend than slack?
Across emails, github issues, slack, etc, I'm a little bit losing track of things.

Hello. Yet another interesting tool that I'd never heard of.

@lukehollis My .02: Bootstrapping the CLTK communications in your Archimedes Slack was a good thing, but it doesn't scale well. If you (the collective "people doing stuff in CLTK") want to use Slack as the definitive application for discussion about the API, then it would be wise to create a new Slack team for CLTK. However, this (gitter.im) seems to be a Slack-like thing that is intertwined with GitHub Organizations.

Here are a couple of reasons why, for the long run, you don't want to invite EPIC (every person interested in CLTK) to the Archimedes Slack: (1) That's your business communications portal. You don't really want to expose it to everyone who is interested in working on CLTK. (2) Even if you were to disregard #1 (and you'd get a long lecture from me if you did :) ), it will become cumbersome for you to invite and authorize everyone who might be interested to join your Slack domain. (3) There will come a time, I suspect, that you will want to move from the Free to the Paid tier of Slack. That will incur a monthly charge per member in your Team. At that point, you're going to want to kick out everyone who isn't part of the Archimedes business. (4) Bowties are cool! (5) I have no idea where #4 came from. ;)

Sounds like a good idea to me if everyone else is okay with it!
I think we can make our own gitter related to the repo if that'd be better organization.

Isn't that how gitter works?
I authenticated with my GitHub credentials, and I presume that I have access to this chat becauseIm part of the GitHub cltk organization

Sounds good to me--though I'm not familiar with gitter.

It's got a similar look and feel to Slack ...

Well, it's a lot more about group communication. No DMs that I've found yet.
Ah, there is ...

Yes, I second @ferthalangur that Gitter will be better in in the long run. In addition to Rob's reasons, I think it will be good for us to demonstrate a collaborative working for others to follow.

So I'm curious whether anyone can join these rooms, or only members of the CLTK organization?

If the former, it would probably be good to include a blurb about it on the cltk.github.io page .
