@ninja4826 Hey, sorry I didn't get the chance. Weird day yesterday :/
:/
not the smiley i was looking for lol
=/
thats the one

@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 06:47
Oh, its fine.
No rush. I'm overhauling the UI right now. I'm implementing an old CRT effect using CSS
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 06:48
glad to know @jettcrowson had a chance to look at it
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 06:48
Yeah
I'm taking a lot of the CRT CSS from a CodePen I found here
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88

@ninja4826 can you send me a link to the game again? To play it online

Mar 31 2016 06:52
Thanks. Also what phone do you have? I have android and the gitter app but I don't get notifications
only by email :/
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 06:52
I half implemented the colorScheme command. Wanted an elliptical gradient in the background fading to black, but its not working

Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 06:52
Yeah, I've noticed that too. For a while when I first got the app, it didn't send notifications. Now it does some how.
I have an android as well.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 06:53
Weird
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 06:54
There are a few issues on their repo talking about notifications on android and how to enable them, but they keep talking about going into the app settings. Haven't been able to find them.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 06:54
Agreed with @jettcrowson it does look good. Not sure how I feel about the text being written the way it is. Personally I rather have it appear line by line instead of char by char.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 06:55
That effect is from a setting in the directive. I can actually change the speed of it, or disable it completely from the code. I was thinking about adding upgrades to do that, but idk.
The idea for the effect is to make it feel like a vintage terminal, and that was how it used to work
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 06:57
Well I gotta get to work. Talk later :)
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 06:57
Oh! If this isn't sending you notifications, how should I reach you?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 06:58
Sec
Sadly no chrome extension for gitter lol
Well I will check this once a while. I have it open in my browser anyhow.
You can also message me on reddit /u/crownie88 and you can message me on telegram or whatsapp if you feel like it. But you'll need my phone number for that.
btw @ninja4826 , Don't you ever sleep? lol
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:03
My sleep pattern is completely skewed. I wake up at about 1pm and go to sleep at about 5am because of a medication that I'm on. I don't have a job right now because I'm studying for a certification to get into an online college for Computer Science.
So no, I don't sleep lol
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:03
lol. Why do you have meds? Sick? (if you don't mind me asking)
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:06
No its fine. Throughout high school I couldn't keep myself awake during class. I was still able to pass the classes like I was awake, but the teachers HATED me (mostly because I slept and still passed). Went to a psychiatrist, found out that I have ADD, and got prescribed. I have a pretty high dosage, and it keeps me awake for ~18 hours.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:06
Ah, I have ADHD but I got diagnosed when I was 7.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:07
Yeah, most people get diagnosed really young because their teachers notice. My teachers noticed me sleeping at first, but I learned to hide it lol
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:07
Also have meds but those don't keep me up. They can, if I take the meds too late, they work for about 12 hours. But I get up at 6:15am and take meds around 6:30~6:45 before I leave for work.
But you learn to live with it.
What are the meds called?
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:09
Vyvanse
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:10
Never heard of that. Isn't ADD very simular to ADHD? not 100% but in a lot of ways.
I remember a guy in my class having it, and he had the same meds as me.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:11
Sort of. ADD is like ADHD, but when someone with ADHD gets bored, they tend to get distracted and hyper/rowdy. People with ADD just get distracted.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:11
Looked it up, I have Concerta, Vyvanse is the same type of medicine but its newer.
Well ADHD has several aspects to it,
  1. Hyperactivity
  2. Impulsiveness
  3. Aggression
  4. Concentration
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:13
Yeah
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:13
I have them all but some more than others, im not very aggresive, everyone with ADHD is impulsive, I can be hyper but it's not really bad
My main problem is with concentration. Which is why I have Concerta
I think you should pull an all nighter at some point.
Then just take your meds around 8 or 9 in the morning. And go to bed at a normal time.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:15
That's my normal plan to reset my cycle
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:15
Then set your alarm to get up around 7~8am even if you have nothing to do. Just to get your cycle back on his feet.
No offense but this can't be good for your health ;)
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:16
Oh, it isn't. I do my best to keep the cycle straight, but I can only do that by skimming off time that I'm asleep.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:17
Ah well I will stop disturbing you now ;P Get some sleep or whatever you do at this time lol
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:18
lol I'm just trying to get this CRT thing working. Its amazing how much work has to be spent on doing something archaic.

Mar 31 2016 07:20

Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:21
No i didn't. I'm at the office. Got my evaluation tomorrow lol. Also got lots to do before the deadline.
Russell Hueske

Mar 31 2016 07:22
Delphi.
But when I create tools to make things easier I do that in C#
Also write scripts in bash for certain tasks because i'm lazy.
In case you don't know it, Delphi is basicly juts FreePascal
just*
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:23
I was just looking into it lol. I've heard of it, just never really looked into it
Laziness is one of the reasons that I wanted to implement Node.js into the CMD++ project. Gulp is a lazy man's dream.
Gulp is a build tool for Node.js
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:27

Laziness is one of the reasons that I wanted to implement Node.js into the CMD++ project. Gulp is a lazy man's dream.

This doesn't add up lol. Because you will have to build it all before it works online.

So that means an extra thing to do instead of just publishing it haha
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:28
The Gulp file in the core repo has a script to do the following:
  1. Build documentation
  2. Add the generated documentation to a commit
  3. Push the commit to the gh-pages repository
  4. Create a new commit with the other changes
  5. Increment the project's version number
  6. Create a git tag for the new release
  7. Transpile the ES6 source files into normal JavaScript
  8. Create a "Browserified" bundle.js file
  9. Create a release on GitHub containing the bundle
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:29
oh that CRT thing looks great btw
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:29
Oops:
  1. Publish the project's update to NPM
meant that 1 to be a 8
*9
All that happens from running gulp release from the project's directory
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:30
Isn't that CRT thing really intense for your browser?
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:33
Nah. CSS is surprisingly optimized.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:33
:+1:
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:34
I hate CSS, but once you get it down, nothing can go wrong. Well, unless your me. Then it just doesn't work.
And that isn't necessarily CSS. What I'm writing (and what was written on the CodePen) was SASS
Which I prefer much more than CSS
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:35
Question. You have to build your application. Can you use build configurations and directives?
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:35
What do you mean?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:36
Example, in delphi you can set a debug configuration.
Then you can use the following code: (give me a sec for this)
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:36
I'm going to send a message real quick, I'm seeing if gitter's markdown can support SASS language
@mixin blah($asdf) {
  background-color: $asdf;
}
oh hey, it can
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:38
{$IFDEF DEBUG}
DoThisAmazingThing();
{$ELSE}
DoAnotherAmazingThing();
{$ENDIF}
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:38
I think I get what you're saying
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:38
If you're building the application with a debug configuration it will execute DoThisAmazingThing();
But if it's a release build it wont reach that code.
it will do another amazing thing
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:39
Well, because of Babel's tools you don't need to build it to debug.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:40
But it would be nice if commands like Poppies won't work on a released version but will work during development without having to delete it everytime it's released
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:41
If you install the babel-cli package by running npm install -g babel-cli, then for example, you can run babel-node src/index.js in the core repository's main directory, and it will run. But since the core project isn't meant be standalone
Poppies?
try it
and watch your data
@jettcrowson added it for easy testing things during development. quite handy.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:42
This is the exact reason that I added the debug parameter to the CMD object's constructor.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:44
ah. Well in my overhaul I could've added it too. But @jettcrowson made an overhaul where this isn't as easy as it could've been. Can still try something else though. Might do that
btw, what do you use as editor?
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:45
This is the constructor for the CMD game object. It takes the following parameters:
  • respond (An anonymous function to handle responses)
  • save (function for obvious use)
  • load (again, obvious use)
  • update (function that allows for updating game values)
  • commandProvider (another function that returns an object of command objects)
  • errorHandler (obvious)
  • debug (boolean)
By specifying the debug parameter as being true, I could have it add the cheat command, which I actually used to have in it
I use Atom. I love writing JavaScript in a program running on JavaScript
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:46
ah ok, I use visual studio code.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:47
Ah. I think I tried that at one point, but I found it to be too uptight for me.
This is another reason I wanted to introduce a build system.

This is my system for changing color schemes in SASS:

$color_schemes: (
  default: (back: black, color: white, input: whit),
  coral: (back: #042029, color: #268BD2, input: #859900),
  fire: (back: #E62739, color: white, input: yellow),
  hacker: (back: black, color: #82B600, input: #887F32),
  invert: (back: white, color: black, input: black),
  mint: (back: #3F4531, color: #91F9E5, input: #7CFFA6),
  naked: (back: #B3C2BF, color: #3B3A36, input: #27588F),
  ocean: (back: #89BDD3, color: white, input: #105BAD)
);

@each $scheme, $colorMap in $color_schemes {
  [data-scheme="#{$scheme}"] {
    &.cmdWindow, &#stats {
      background-color: map-get($colorMap, back);
      color: map-get($colorMap, color);
    }
  }
}

And this is what it compiles to in CSS:

[data-scheme="default"].cmdWindow, [data-scheme="default"]#stats {
  background-color: black;
  color: white;
}

[data-scheme="coral"].cmdWindow, [data-scheme="coral"]#stats {
  background-color: #042029;
  color: #268BD2;
}

[data-scheme="fire"].cmdWindow, [data-scheme="fire"]#stats {
  background-color: #E62739;
  color: white;
}

[data-scheme="hacker"].cmdWindow, [data-scheme="hacker"]#stats {
  background-color: black;
  color: #82B600;
}

[data-scheme="invert"].cmdWindow, [data-scheme="invert"]#stats {
  background-color: white;
  color: black;
}

[data-scheme="mint"].cmdWindow, [data-scheme="mint"]#stats {
  background-color: #3F4531;
  color: #91F9E5;
}

[data-scheme="naked"].cmdWindow, [data-scheme="naked"]#stats {
  background-color: #B3C2BF;
  color: #3B3A36;
}

[data-scheme="ocean"].cmdWindow, [data-scheme="ocean"]#stats {
  background-color: #89BDD3;
  color: white;
}
You said you write bash scripts. What do you use to run them on Windows?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:50
cygwin
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:51
Ah. Do you have git in cygwin?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:51
dunno. I use the git client
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:56
Ah
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:57
Found a crappy way for those commands to work locally but not online lol
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:57
which commands?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:57
like poppies
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:58
Ah. how's that?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:58
the commands you want while debugging but not online
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:58
Also, if you want to take a look, I've got the CRT effect in place
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:58
var environment = "http://jettcrowson.github.io/CMD++/CMD.html";
if (window.location.href != environment){
//Commands for debugging only here.
}
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:59
That could work. The way I was debugging was using the terminal project. I can run all the commands from a bash terminal, and I can add my own (like cheat)
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 07:59
you should add the link to your game in the readme of your repo lol
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 07:59
I can add it as the website for the repo on the top near the description
There. Its at the top
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:00
nice
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:00
Eh. I'll add it to the repo too. I'll change the top header to a link.
*readme. not repo
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:01
can't see it very good. Maybe the font is too small? idk.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:01
Yeah
I could do that
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:01
Ah wellicht. Time for a smoken
Ah well *
Frikkin autocorrect
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:12
There. Im back
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:15
The color schemes don't seem to be very contrasting, so I'm setting up some SASS logic to darken/lighten the background-color and color properties
I might keep it so that only the text changes instead of the background as well
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:19
Confused now lol
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:19
About what?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:19
what youre gonna do with the styles now
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:20
Change only the text's color, instead of both the text and background
Unless we find a good set of colors that don't make it impossible to see
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:20
ah
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:20
for example, if you go to the website right now and type colorScheme coral, you're going to have a bad time.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:21
yup coz it will say I don't have the command unlocked #FeelsBadMan
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:21
You don't have to buy it lol
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:21
lol hax
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:21
At least not on mine?
Idk, I felt like personalization isn't something that has to be worked for
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:21
its just blue text
it's not too bad
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:22
Whoops wrong scheme. I meant colorScheme ocean
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:22
tested them all. ocean is bad lol
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:22
Thankfully, I don't have it saving the color scheme lol

Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:30
Do you have any experience with windows messages etc?
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:30
Usually takes me about 15 commits to get a damn div centered
Windows messages?
What do you mean?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:31
Well windows (the OS) sends messages when an event is fired.
Like a mouse click or a button is pressed.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:32
Sort of from when I did a bit of C#
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:33
Okay. Are you having an issue with them?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 08:34
Anyhow, is there any message when a user clicks on a link?
At work we use Jira for issue tracking. I want to make an application for Jira. But if a link to jira is clicked it should open with my application. But there is no way to make links for jira open with another application other than a browser. So i 'm hoping that there is a message for it so I can redirect it myself.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 08:34
Sort of like clicking a reddit link in a browser on your android, and it opening a reddit app?

yeah pretty much.
Russell Hueske

My car is the only one with a hitch on it, and my uncle needs to bring a trailer over to haul some stuff to the dump

And we have to pick the trailer up at 7

Mar 31 2016 10:37
Sweet. There is a windows application for gitter.
That makes things easier :D
@ninja4826 can you send a message? Any message will do. Wanna see how this app acts when minimized :)

oh that is suboptimal. If you have an image on your clipboard and press Ctrl+V in the textbox it will send it without the option of canceling.

That's silly

My point exactly
wait... this acts weird too lol

Mar 31 2016 10:44
What? quoting?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 10:44
Yeah. My line is showed as quote too.
That's silly
Indeed?
hmm... Ok I give up. No more quoting lol

lol its better than trying to build a C++ project from source without knowing the libraries or compiler version it was built with.
I have a Beaglebone Black that I've been trying to get a GPIO library for Node.js working with, but it took me about a week to figure out that I needed to update the kernel and compilers to C++11

Oh! I just remembered what I wanted to do! I was thinking about setting up a Trello ToDo system
This is a video tutorial showing how to create a Twitch.tv chat bot using Node.js in about 12 minutes. He goes over pretty much everything after installing Node.js

@ninja4826 but you want a trello todo thing for development issues?
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 12:48
Were you able to take a look at the video?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 12:48
Nope lol.
is it mandatory?
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 12:48
Yeah, to keep it more organized. You can create categories and put different items in them
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 12:48
I see.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 12:48
Nah, just something to help keep everyone in the loop about current development
lol no, its not manditory

@ninja4826 weird question. Can I have your email adress?

Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 12:56
invited you to it. I think
Oh wait nevermind
No need to accept the invite.
Just saw this:
Your current subscription doesn't allow more than 2 team members per project.
Invite unlimited team members per project for as low as $5 per month!
So that sucks lol
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 12:59
For what?
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 12:59
Issue tracking software
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 13:00
Ever used Trello?
You can join the team I created by going here
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 13:01
Nope. But figured that a issue tracker would give more possibilities than a todo list :)
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 13:01
I can set it up to do issue tracking using Github Webhooks and Trello's API. Its actually pretty easy
I can make a list specifically for public issues, which we can assign to the different lists on the board
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 13:02
Waiting for email... takes long lol
ah well... time for a smoke anyhow
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 13:04
This is what I used to have integrated into another project I had. I was the only developer (backend and frontend for a parts management system for an engineering company), but I wanted a good way to organize my issues (I made issues and used them as a todo list)
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 13:11
What about this?
In the repository, the ZenHub system created an issue to notify all users of the repo that you can use ZenHub on the repository. That issue is #4.
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 13:34
I decided that Slack may be a better place than Gitter for messaging. If you agree, then we could easily just switch over.
Teun Pronk
@Crownie88
Mar 31 2016 13:41
and why is that?
Russell Hueske
@ninja4826
Mar 31 2016 13:42
Its a lot like an IRC, but with development integration
for example, I just set up github integration, so that any time something happens on the repo (commit, new issue, new PR, etc.) a bot will notify anyone listening to the #github channel
