@satwikkansal , can https://github.com/editorconfig/editorconfig-core-py be used to generate a .editorconfig ? If not, are their other libraries which might do this?
interesting set of results for pypi:editorconfig

@jayvdb No, https://github.com/editorconfig/editorconfig-core-py has very limited functionality of returning the style properties of the file provided based on the project's .editorconfig (looks like it is designed only for editor plugins)

And http://editorconfig.org says

EditorConfig files use an INI format that is compatible with the format used by Python ConfigParser Library, but [ and ] are allowed in the section names. The section names are filepath globs, similar to the format accepted by gitignore.

So maybe we can use ConfigParser library to write the .editorconfig
Didn't find any other library that does exactly this

again, lets talk with the editorconfig team, let them know what we're planning, and see if they are interested in any of it.

forum is the way to go then, but it would be nice if they created a more general gitter room
or, find the main contributors to the python repos, and see if any of them are active on gitter

would it be okay for any of us to PM him directly, or should we first drop a post in forum and wait for it being acknowledged

sure; PM him, and suggest you're happy to keep PM'ing, or happy to chat in a public room like coala's ,or a new general room under editorconfig

treyhunner has helped us in the past with creating our "one line definition of what coala is" that wasn't easy to come up with
