following as i'm also running into problems syncing
i thought it was a vpn issue (it often is) but turned off the vpn and its still not letting me sync
Shannon Rush
@sdrush-mw

I am also experiencing the same issue since this morning. Web interface for inthe.am web console is showing a mostly blank page apart from the header and the cli returns: ❯ task sync
Syncing with inthe.am:53589

Could not connect to inthe.am 53589
Sync failed. Could not connect to the Taskserver.

I'm not sure how to provide curl with the appropriate keys, so I imagine seeing a connection_refused for a blind curl against the port is probably expected
actually, the web ui does eventually throw a 502 bad gateway error

Hi @coddingtonbear, I'd like to report the same issue as @arozans from the 18th. I'm getting a standard sync message locally and this error from the web ui.

Error An error was encountered while attempting to synchronize your task list: Synchronization is currently disabled for your account.

At this point, I've attempted to clear out any part of my account I can to resync with no success. I created a throwaway account and was able to sync, so the issue seems to be tied specifically to the server account.

Hello @coddingtonbear ,
I am running into an issue syncing to inthe.am. Running 'task sync' returns 'Sync successful.'. However, I do not see any changes reflected in the Inthe.am portal or logs. If I create a ticket via inthe.am portal and run 'task sync', the new task is not synced to my machine. My account email is a.nahodil@gmail.com. Any help you can offer is appreciated. Thank you.

Hey. If I click 'refresh' in the 'inthe.am' web interface, I receive "Server Error (500)". I see old tasks there that I have marked done and synced to 'inthe.am'.

I must also mention that today I had to change taskwarrior.inthe.am to simply inthe.am in the taskrc to get the synchronization working. I made the change, since in the webinterface I saw this new URI being used.

Hey there! For the last few weeks I've been having connection issues and this morning decided to Reset Taskserver Synchronization Settings. Seems the issues haven't gone away and now I'm seeing lots of errors in the Activity Log tab. Mostly Sync failed. The Taskserver returned error: 504 Request too big or Sync failed. The Taskserver returned error: 500 Client sync key not found.. I've removed backlog.data file and the issue seems to persist. Curious if there's anything odd with my account status or I missed something. Thanks a lot for Inthe.am @coddingtonbear. :raised_hands:

donbex Hi! inte.am sounds quite interesting, but there is one question I cannot seem to find an answer for (sorry if this has been asked before). How is task data stored on the server and who is it visible to?
Adam Coddington
@coddingtonbear
@matrixbot -- task data is stored on two volumes (one for the taskserver and one for where the web interface syncs your tasks) that are encrypted at rest and accessible only to me right now. At some point in the nearish future, though, I'm going to be looking to assemble a small group of volunteers to help maintain things, and they, too, at that point would theoretically be able to access task data.

it looks like there's a misbehaving client connecting to the taskserver, but not sending any data
the taskserver doesn't handle that gracefully, so the service was probably just continuously restarting over the last few hours as that user re-established their connection
this happens from time-to-time, and used to require me just blocking that particular IP via firewall rules; atm, I'm trying to figure out how to do that in the new environment
abatistas1709
@abatistas1709
working now... tks...

Incidentally; looking through logs -- it looks like the misbehaving client might've been yours, @abatistas1709

Sorry... I was checking whether the service came back... Since this impacted the server, I won't do that anymore...

all fixed :fireworks:
it wasn't weird traffic at all; just a misunderstanding I had around how docker logging works

Syncing with taskwarrior.inthe.am:53589

Sync failed. Either your credentials are incorrect, or your account doesn't exist on the Taskserver.
Anyone else with this issue?

hrm; I released a big chunk of changes yesterday evening, but I can't imagine how that'd affect the taskserver
looking into it, though
Adam Coddington
@coddingtonbear
super perplexed at the moment -- it sort of mysteriously started mounting correctly again :question:
the reason it was occuring was that for some reason docker wasn't mounting the taskd-data named volume at /var/taskd/orgs (see https://github.com/coddingtonbear/inthe.am/blob/development/docker-compose.yml#L137)
it was mounting that exact same volume in another container, though; so I'm sort of mystified
I think I might need to find somebody more familiar with docker to get an understanding of what might've went wrong there

it seems to me that the webfrontent (inthe.am) got out of sync. syncing works perfectly on several clients I use (two laptops, android phone), but the webfront, which I rarely use, shows data which is several months old. I do not get any error messages, just old data. if you could have a look that would be great.
