@despo
makes me wonder if we should try naming the tutorials better, maybe using tags for different topics they cover
alimolloy
@alimolloy
I learnt quite a lot on Weds night. Great experience for a newbie like me - I look forward to learning a lot more :)
Despo Pentara
@despo
@alimolloy hey, thanks so much for your feedback. Looking forward to having you around more often :smile:

Hey all, I made a couple of updates to the website and added an FAQ http://codebar.io/faq
if you have any comments on this, suggestions/additions please feel free to open a PR or an issue
Lukas Maciulis
@LukasMac
@despo are you here?
I haven't got invitation for todays session
Despo Pentara
@despo
no?
:( let me check it out, thats odd
Despo Pentara
@despo
If you haven't received an invitation for next week's workshop can you check your spam and let me know. I set up the SPF and DKIM for mendrill but one of the coaches emailed me this morning pointing out he found the email in his spam :worried: Also, if you know how to or can help me sort this out please do.
Despo Pentara
@despo
make that 2 coaches
Despo Pentara
@despo

@mrjamesriley
Hello all - looking forward to coaching for the first time this Wednesday =D
@despo, just a heads up that I also had the invitation go into my Spam folder (on a Google Apps backed email account)
Despo Pentara
@despo
@mrjamesriley thanks for letting me know James, was this the invitation I sent out yesterday?
James Riley
@mrjamesriley
Yes, both the 'Request for coaches' and 'Attendance Confirmation' went straight to spam :worried:
Despo Pentara
@despo
@mrjamesriley :worried: I made a couple of tweaks on Friday night, was hoping that this was the end of that. Seems like mail-tester.com is only so good. I'll look a bit more into it.
Daniel Barber
@danbee
@despo For what it's worth, the emails go straight into my inbox. My mail is hosted with Fastmail.
Claudio Ortolina
@cloud8421
never had an issue as well
Larissa
@lb0202
Hi @despo how can I join Wednesday's session? Can you tell me a bit more about it? I know HTML, CSS, a bit of javascript and have been teaching myself RoR.
Despo Pentara
@despo
Hi @lb0202 I just got back to your email!
Despo Pentara
@despo
about the email guys I don't know. :| pretty much stuck atm. I'll worry about that tomorrow. If you dont get an invitation remember you should be able to access them through the portal as well, after you login to codebar.io
even though the issue is mostly emails to students
Despo Pentara
@despo
hey guys, I've just put some information up for our upcoming meetup
this is open to everyone, no signing up to codebar required
and thanks to @swathik @Rosa-Fox and @indykid for offering to do talks
emilycoats
@emilycoats
Hello all, quick question. Heroku seems great for hosting RoR apps but what do people use for javascript only pages? Is Heroku still the choice or is there something lighter/simpler?
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
You can try Github pages
Finding you a link now, but it could be considered equally complicated
emilycoats
@emilycoats
Cool thanks. I take it heroku would also work though?
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
Yeah heroku should work fine, but also heroku free tier will put your dyno to sleep if it's not getting much attention.
But that may not matter depending on what you are trying to do?
emilycoats
@emilycoats
I don't know what you mean by 'put your dyno to sleep'...
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
Ah okay, so heroku is probably fine, but when people don't visit for awhile, your site will effectively slow down for the next few visitors
emilycoats
@emilycoats
ah ok. no I don't really mind about that, I'm just playing around
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
So if noone visited for the next 5 minutes, it might go to sleep, then someone visits and its starts to wake up which is a bit slow for the first few requests
Excellent then either is fine
emilycoats
@emilycoats
thanks for your help :)
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
No problem, that's why we're here :)
Camille Baldock
@camilleldn
codebar.io seems to be down :-( happy to help with fix...
my heroku username is camille@camillebaldock.co.uk

@camilleldn :( i just restarted the server which sorted it out

this is the second time this happens in the last couple of days, i think caused because we are running out of connections.
Daniel Barber
@danbee
@despo You need to make sure that you're not firing up more processes than you've got available database connections
