this is the second time this happens in the last couple of days, i think caused because we are running out of connections.
Daniel Barber
@danbee
@despo You need to make sure that you're not firing up more processes than you've got available database connections
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
I would have thought that heroku managed taht?
Daniel Barber
@danbee
Nope
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
Last time I was at their offices they were talking about injecting thin automagically because so many people would let WEBRick linger about, if they are doing that it would make sense to restrict the number of connections at the same time
Although I never checked to see if they did in the end, so thats a moot point
Daniel Barber
@danbee
It's difficult to do that because the maximum potential connections is dependent on the number of dyno's and threads/processes per dyno
If you decide to have 4 threads per dyno, you'll hit the limit of the hobby tiers with 5 dynos
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
I feel like this is drifting off topic for the tutorials channel, I also dont know enough about thin to make any statements
Despo Pentara
@despo
sorry im not participating a bit busy with some other stuff atm
Daniel Barber
@danbee
No worries
Daniel Barber
@danbee

Does anyone have any suggestions on tools to use for creating mobile mockups? Or general advice to one of the students who is asking about some advice in setting up a presentation for an app idea?
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
My advice would be sketch them with a pencil and not fuss around so much with apps
Despo Pentara
@despo
yeah i was thinking that, i was wondering because its a more format meeting if it would have higher chances of getting her funding if it looks more polished
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
Depends on the investors, she could spin it as being pragmatic
We did use this internall for awhile: http://balsamiq.com/products/mockups/
Well some people did.
Despo Pentara
@despo
Cool! I'll tell her this. And get her to ask here next time :)
its an imperial funding scheme.
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
Sanctioned by her majesty?
Despo Pentara
@despo
:D
Camille Baldock
@camilleldn
pingdom tells me the site is down, @despo i see you are rails consoling there, anything i can help with ? :-)
Camille Baldock
@camilleldn
and it's a heroku-wide issue :-(
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
codebar is responding for me?
Despo Pentara
@despo
@camilleldn thanks, its all sorted now. heroku eu issue unfortunately

yes its great. :smile: They almost got the name right, maybe we should split logo in two words, people seem to be saying 'the code bar' a lot haha

Morning all. Signed up earlier today to do some coaching.
The session on Wed 21st is now full. It would be good to be able to register an interest anyway, so that one could be notified if another coach had to drop out.
Despo Pentara
@despo
@poetix hey. I released a couple of more spots so you should be able to sign up - if not, there is a bug..
Dominic Fox
@poetix
Ah, right, I'll try now.
Done, thanks.
Despo Pentara
@despo
@poetix also, can you open an issue about this here https://github.com/codebar/planner - or if you want to implement this, it would be awesome :D
Dominic Fox
@poetix
Great idea.

One Month Rails (Video lessons with exercises and support, 30 minutes per day, 1 month), offer 25% discount with this code: http://onemonthrails.com/signup?discount_code=oekXez (so it’s 74 US dollars (about 45 pounds) instead of 99). This is not an ad, I’m doing the one month, hoping to up my Rails skills, and I’m looking for a "code buddy", someone to do the assignments together with me, keep each other motivated.
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
Hey @fanaugen, I would suggest, as a general rule of thumb that you avoid posting links to commercial products unless someone asks. There's no specified policy about it here, but some discussions (much like IRC channels) will have a policy against it.
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
Also #offtopic-discussions would be better for non-tutorial talk. Not that it's particularly busy in here at the moment.
Despo Pentara
@despo
I agree with @barisbalic even though I know @fanaugen meant well. The course sounds great for the more advanced students and it would be a good opportunity fot them to collaborate with a coach who is spending more time understanding Rails.
Alex Jahraus
@fanaugen
Sorry, I meant to post it to #offtopic-discussions

It's a 'no' from Sublime on free licences:

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your email.

We do not offer free licenses of any kind; however part of the reason we offer a free unlimited trial is so students like yours can learn on Sublime Text without the burden of paying for it.

Version 3 is now available to trial too: www.sublimetext.com/3

Cheers

Sublime HQ PTY LTD

Should we be recommending an alternative that is more 'free'? Or just putting up with the nagware?
Despo Pentara
@despo
@andrewmcdonough I don't use any of these editors but how about textmate or atom? Besides the Windows support is sublime that much better?
