there's no upcoming Brighton event scheduled -- will there be one?
Rosa Fox
@Rosa-Fox
the next one is on Tuesday 22nd at Ideal Networks in Kemp Town, I will put it up on the website and also send out the invitations tonight, sorry for the delay
Ann Danylkiw
@annlytical
oh, no! don't apologise! I was just worried for a second that you decided there weren't enough people coming to continue holding the events in Brighton. Good to know that's not the case :-)

@all is anyone up for working on this? https://github.com/codebar/tutorials/issues/99#issuecomment-49043807 @jkbits1 ?
or more generally, there are a couple of issues that I opened after the meeting we had last month to discuss missing tutorials and courses. If you think/have the time to pick up one it would be great. The format should be similar to other tutorials, following a learn by doing style. https://github.com/codebar/tutorials/issues?state=open

@jkbits1
@despo, I'm happy to take a look at this issue. I'll try out installing the gSchool tables in sqlite, and create the answers to some of the exercises. I can create some headers for a tutorial, and write some instructions, but I'll welcome some assistance in making the text sound as friendly and interesting as the existing codebar tutorials!

Hey guys, I'm new here. I'd like to attend the next event as a coach, but I've had a slight concerns. I've worked as a developer in London for a year or so, therefore I'm not really confided about if my skills in the language would be enough to lead other person towards improving her skills. I've been programming for almost 20 years, so I'm merely worrying about my English. But, I must say that I have a huge motivation to help other people to get better at programming. What are your thoughts on this?
Alexander Jahraus
@fanaugen
@vbence86 judging from your message your English is just fine :) And if you have been programming for 20 years I’m sure you have plenty of knowledge to share. Many of the codebar students have just a little coding experience or even none at all: I’ve done the introduction to HTML a few times already. Just register as a coach, wait for the invitation to one of the events, come along and see whether you like it.

@helveticafire hi
Despo Pentara
@despo
@vbence86 agree with what @fanaugen said. If you want to just come to one of the workshops and see how things are first, you are also more than welcome.
Bence Varga
@vbence86
Thanks guys for the encouragement, I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it.

No it doesn't work for me yet :-) But thanks for checking
Despo Pentara
@despo
ok odd, my friend says it doesnt work for him either. might need some more time for all dns to be updated
in the meantime you can access things at http://github.com/codebar/tutorials/
in the html/js/ruby/git directories

ooh, a Discuss! Should make the Gitter obsolete, right? Except for discussions specific to the git repo, possibly
Despo Pentara
@despo
lets see how it goes, i do like the simplicity of being able to just ask something that may not necessarily fit within a forum

I will email this out soon, but it would be great if you could sign up at discuss.codebar.io so you are eventually able to respond/direct student questions there

Hi there, I've just signed up and looking forward to meeting you on Wednesday to do the tutorials on Git. I've created the Git Hub account. I used upper case in my username: CarolinaS, that means that now I have this address: https://github.com/CarolinaS/thursday.git. Will that work or do I have to change the name to be all lower case? I know that with PHP some paths have to be all with lower case. Thanks a lot!
Ali
@Najaf
Should be fine, I have upcased chars in my GitHub name, so does @Rosa-Fox
Alexander Jahraus
@fanaugen
I would love to volunteer to coach someone on Git & Github basics :)
Carolina Sawney
@assembly21
Wow, well I'll do my homework then!
When configuring a Git user on a Mac, I have to write my name:
git config —global user.name “Carolina Sawney”

Is this the same as the Git user name (CarolinaS), the same as my Mac user name (Carolina), does this matter or can be anything else? See you on Wednesday!
Carolina Sawney
@assembly21
CarolinaS is the Git user account name. That's what I meant.
Ali
@Najaf
I’m fairly sure it can be anything you like. It’s the name that each commit you make will have recorded against it. No need for it to match up with your account on GitHub. I think accessing GitHub with the ssh keys you will have set up is enough for GitHub to authenticate you.
