Jacopo Nardiello
@jnardiello
It did (for me at least)
Alex Pounds
@creature
@jnardiello Thanks. :) Someone emailed to say they couldn’t see the link and I got worried.
Ben Lovell
@benlovell
yep, fine here too!
Jon Kelly
@jkbits1
The link is there and works fine :smile: . It is a little more vertical and thinner than usual, perhaps that's what led to the feedback. We are giving the company logo more height this week, so maybe it's stretched it a little.
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
hey @creature those lighting talks usually come with slides, right?
Despo Pentara
@despo
@knuxus no, slides are optional
Alex Pounds
@creature
@knuxus You can have slides if you want them, but I’d keep them to a minimum as 5 minutes isn’t very long. If you prefer no slides, that’s fine too. :)
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
=)
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
hey @creature , i have 5 slides that can be converted into a lighting talk about focus
and what it means for developers
or is there anyone else presenting this wednesday?
Alex Pounds
@creature
There's no presentation scheduled for this Wednesday, but I'm not sure we've got an AV system either. We could definitely put you down for 2 weeks time, though?
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
sure
all up for it
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
we've had presentations at shutl before so I'm sure it could be sorted out
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
all yours to decide, i can do it wednesday or next week..
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
but whenever is convenient for you @knuxus
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
i like surprises but its better to be expected
so i leave the choice up to those who organize this
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
ok @knuxus, can we do this Wednesday then?
we are eager to restart the talks, a lot of students liked them
Nikesh Ashar
@nikeshashar
are codebars only on Wednesdays?
Alex Pounds
@creature
@nikeshashar In London we hold them weekly on Wednesdays, and occasionally have one-day events at the weekend throughout the year. I think Brighton holds theirs every 2 weeks on Tuesdays. I’m not sure about Cambridge.
If you sign up on the website you can join the mailing list for the chapter closest to you, and you’ll get email invites to each event.
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
Okay @matyikriszta , i'll send you a preview of slides if you wish during tommorow...
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
@knuxus, excellent, thanks for doing it!
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
my pleasure
love your work
Dave Gurnell
@davegurnell
@nikeshashar @creature Brighton is weekly on Tuesdays these days.
Alex Pounds
@creature
@davegurnell Neat! Thanks for the info. :)
Alex Jahraus
@fanaugen
Sorry, can’t make it tomorrow. Codebar clashes with our Tech Book Club session. By the way, we’re discussing Eloquent JavaScript, it’s a free book available online at http://eloquentjavascript.net/ and it’s very beginner-friendly (in fact, no programming knowledge is required at all, but the reader is being treated like an adult, that is, the intro to variables and values is quite fast-paced) – I can highly recommend it to beginner JS learners.
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
Thanks for letting us know @fanaugen. Good book suggestion as well 😀
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
hey guys any spots left for tonight for students?
My friend @goncalosm trying to snatch it...
Alex Pounds
@creature
Right now the workshop looks full up, I’m afraid.
Alexander Kustov
@alexanderkustov
Ah, those last minute seat snipers...
well probably nearer the workshop we'll see if it gets any better..

@sasstevens
I've been assured it's not a silly question, but is there any particular skillset that's missing for the coaches down in Brighton, or are you guys completely oversubscribed with everything? I'd really like to get involved, and thought it'd be more useful if there were some tutorials I paid more attention to familiarising myself with!
Despo Pentara
@despo
@Rosa-Fox can you help?
@sasstevens even though I'm guessing that it's similar to London. We always have HTML demand so the first set of tutorials are important, less in JS, and usually even less in Ruby
and more rarely other languages, with Python I think being highest on demand.
Edd Trent
@piddl0r
@sasstevens I've only attended 3 Brighton events so far, but I think most areas were covered. There are a few people doing things there aren't tutorials for such as processing. There are plenty of students working through html & css tutorials, quite a few on JS and a couple of people are learning ruby.
sas
@sasstevens
@piddl0r excellent! thank you! Also, processing... yay!
Olu Niyi-Awosusi
@oluoluoxenfree
I'm trying to get onto the waiting list and getting ~"The page you are looking for cannot be found."
Despo Pentara
@despo
@oluoluoxenfree that seems to happen every now and then, but I'm not sure why. The requests is and should be a 'post' and not 'get' - but sometimes the app gets confused and processes it as a GET which is why that happens.
Olu Niyi-Awosusi
@oluoluoxenfree
huh, weird. Learning all about REST this week at my bootcamp, mindblown lol
Despo Pentara
@despo
@oluoluoxenfree :smile:
Katie Willow Martin
@KatieWillowMartin
  • hi i work for Madgex , just wondering if you needed any help tonight im a developer here and have free time ?
Despo Pentara
@despo
@KatieWillowMartin hi Katie, not sure if anyone from the Brighton group is around. It should not be an issue but could you email brighton@codebar.io and one of the organisers should let you know for sure!
Katie Willow Martin
@KatieWillowMartin
ok thanks
