@despo
@sasstevens even though I'm guessing that it's similar to London. We always have HTML demand so the first set of tutorials are important, less in JS, and usually even less in Ruby
and more rarely other languages, with Python I think being highest on demand.

@piddl0r
@sasstevens I've only attended 3 Brighton events so far, but I think most areas were covered. There are a few people doing things there aren't tutorials for such as processing. There are plenty of students working through html & css tutorials, quite a few on JS and a couple of people are learning ruby.

@sasstevens
@piddl0r excellent! thank you! Also, processing... yay!

I'm trying to get onto the waiting list and getting ~"The page you are looking for cannot be found."
Despo Pentara
@despo
@oluoluoxenfree that seems to happen every now and then, but I'm not sure why. The requests is and should be a 'post' and not 'get' - but sometimes the app gets confused and processes it as a GET which is why that happens.
Olu Niyi-Awosusi
@oluoluoxenfree
huh, weird. Learning all about REST this week at my bootcamp, mindblown lol

@KatieWillowMartin
  • hi i work for Madgex , just wondering if you needed any help tonight im a developer here and have free time ?
Despo Pentara
@despo
@KatieWillowMartin hi Katie, not sure if anyone from the Brighton group is around. It should not be an issue but could you email brighton@codebar.io and one of the organisers should let you know for sure!
Katie Willow Martin
@KatieWillowMartin
ok thanks
Dave Gurnell
@davegurnell
@KatieWillowMartin Sorry we missed your message yesterday! Extra help is always welcome. The next event is next Tuesday at the Skiff, just around the corner from you.
If you sign up as a coach you can opt in/out of that or any future events as time permits. http://codebar.io/member/new?role=Coach
Denise Yu
@deniseyu
i've gone to codebar as a student a few times before, can i switch my member type to coaching somehow..? would like to try helping out w javascript or ruby!
Alex Pounds
@creature
@deniseyu If you log in to the Codebar site & go to the profile page (use the menu on the left hand side), you can subscribe to the London Coaches list.
It’s up to you whether you kep subscribed to the students list too - you’ll get invites as a student & as a coach that way, if you do. :)
Nikesh Ashar
@nikeshashar
@deniseyu - are you back in town?
Despo Pentara
@despo
@deniseyu easy access - codebar.io/subscriptions
Denise Yu
@deniseyu
cool! thanks @creature @despo :) @nikeshashar yup i got back on sunday
Despo Pentara
@despo
Does anyone have any spare time to help with the Codebar app - we need to move away from Cloudinary, prob to AWS, as we'v exceeded the limit and has too high a cost for me to even consider.
If you do please drop me an email at despo@codebar.io - or else if i dont get time the website may look a bit weird after the 23rd.
:)
Alex Pounds
@creature
There’s an issue for it on Github, if anyone has questions/feedback/wants to take it on: codebar/planner#193
Despo Pentara
@despo
is anyone here based in NY? Will be announcing our first couple of Codebar NY workshops soon!
Denise Yu
@deniseyu
no but i lived there for 4 yrs & can put you in touch w some devs i know if you need!
Despo Pentara
@despo
@deniseyu thank you! There should be an email in your inbox.
Jacopo Nardiello
@jnardiello
@despo Sorry but tomorrow won't be able to attend. Today got some really bad temperature :( Just modified my attendance confirmation on the website as well.
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
@jnardiello thanks for letting us know, get better soon!

@sasstevens
Hey, this week's invite for Brighton, in gmail in FF 36, the logo for the company covers up the 'view/RSPV' button. Not sure if it's happening for anyone else, might be a thing for @Rosa-Fox?
Daniel Gogarty
@DanTheBlue
@sasstevens Cant say I notice that on my android phone? Where did you see it out of interest?
Nick Jacobs
@njacobs5074
Hey. Sad to say, but I must bid adieu. I am off to Cape Town to enjoy the warm & sunny climate and try to make something happen in their awesome start-up scene. I've enjoyed being part of CodeBar, albeit not for a very long time.
On a more practical note, is there a way to "unsign-up" from the Coaches list?
Despo Pentara
@despo
@njacobs5074 hey, that sounds awesome :) You can unsubscribe through http://codebar.io/subscriptions after logging in!
Jon Kelly
@jkbits1
@njacobs5074 thanks for saying goodbye, it was great to meet you. Good luck with your start-up!

Does anyone have any feedback on this or reasons that another license may be more appropriate? codebar/tutorials#167
Dave Gurnell
@davegurnell
@despo is this for the Codebar course content?
If so, I'm thinking a Creative Commons license might be more appropriate (OSS for code, CC for media). I'm no expert on this stuff though.
I've put out free courses in the past with the notes CC and the source code Apache 2. In my case I'm allowing commercial re-use, though, which I'm guessing you won't want.
Despo Pentara
@despo
@davegurnell for the tutorials. But I think you are right, I was thinking about software but this is not. Maybe Attribution-ShareAlike would be a better choice.
or Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International
Dave Gurnell
@davegurnell
I don't know the history of the tutorials. Some contributors may prefer NC on there as well.
Despo Pentara
@despo
Yes, definitely not for commercial usage.
Dave Gurnell
@davegurnell
That sounds safer to me.
priya121
@priya121
Hey Despo, just having a look at the website, attribution non-commercial sharealike looks good.. If you want people to contribute to it and if they liscence their changes they give you credit and cannot pass it on for commercial reasons..
Creative Commons is such a great idea! Browsing their website right now..
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
@priya121 what does the sharealike part means exactly?
priya121
@priya121
@matyikriszta It means that you build upon or transform the material , you have to distribute the changes under the same conditions as the original liscence
So non commercial, giving credit to original author etc
Dave Gurnell
@davegurnell
Who has the Copyright on the Codebar tutorials? The original author?
It won't be hugely important in practical terms if the tutorials are CC-licensed, but it's the sort of detail that needs to be correct.
