Just seen the event info for West London (at Graze) on 14th July. The map is wrong!
Despo Pentara
@despo
yeah.. not sure how to fix it, this is the generated link https://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Palm%20Court,+4%20Heron%20Square,+Richmond,+TW9%201EW&ie=UTF8&hq=&t=m&z=15

Nicky Chorley
@ndchorley
stupid Maps :(
also, has anyone given a talk on HTTP yet? If not, I'd like to do that when there's a free slot
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
@ndchorley not as a lightning talk so it would be great if you could do it
Nicky Chorley
@ndchorley
yay, let me know when there's an empty slot :)
Denise Yu
@deniseyu
i don't think anyone is lined up for this upcoming workshop at Twitter, it is yours if you want!
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
Guiseppe was supposed to do one
Denise Yu
@deniseyu
ahh whoops. sorry. @ndchorley are you open to doing one in two weeks' time then?
Nicky Chorley
@ndchorley
on the 17th then? Yep, that's fine
Ali
@Najaf
@ndchorley HTTP is an excellent topic for a talk
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
@ndchorley the Wed lightning talk spot opened up, do you think you'd be able to do the HTTP talk?
Nicky Chorley
@ndchorley
Yep, just need to write it.
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
@ndchorley excellent, sorry for the late notice :)
Nicky Chorley
@ndchorley
No worries - it's pretty much written in my head anyway!

Do we have a lightning talk for Codebar @ Pivotal Labs on the 1st of July?
Denise Yu
@deniseyu
@fanaugen don't believe so. do you want to do one? :)

Hi everyone: I was looking at learning SASS, after a conversation or two this week. But I wanted to know if the styles will work if I switch off Javascript. Apart from that are there any disadvantages of using SASS? Thanks!.
Oliver Turner
@oliverturner
@assembly21 they will
(work that is)
Sass compiles to static CSS
You need to distinguish between SASS and Sass btw
There are 2 dialects of Sass: SASS and SCSS
SCSS is the one to learn: by far the more common syntax
And no, there is no downside... unless being too awesome is a downside.
(For the record I don't consider needing a build step to be much of a downside)
I guess there's one thing I'd note, which is that the real hipsters are beginning to get on the PostCSS bandwagon, but in terms of getting a job, IDE support, etc SCSS is a very solid bet
Oliver Turner
@oliverturner
(let me know if any of that ^ needs clarification)
Carolina Sawney
@assembly21
@codedsignal I'll do that homework then Oliver! Thanks.
Oliver Turner
@oliverturner
No problem :)

Hey there! Guys (sublime text users) how you deal with next problem:

/* some CSS */
.first-selector {
font-weight: bold;
}

.another-selector { ... ;}

Actually
after typing bold; in example above in order to beginning typing
.another-selector I must "push" down or pageDown button on my keyboard
and also hit Enter - but it sucks! Maybe exist plugin (package) or
default trivial deal with it? ( after typing bold; for instance hit
binding Ctrl+Space(or something like this) and just begin typing
.another-selector . I know it was tough)) but I hope you understand me, any
suggestions?

Alex Jahraus
@fanaugen
@deniseyu I could do a tiny lightning talk tomorrow at Pivotal, but only if there are no talks in the pipeline, as my idea is rather silly to be honest.
Also, definitely going to recommend CodeSchool’s JS course to any JS beginners from now on: https://www.codeschool.com/courses/javascript-road-trip-part-1
While it’s is a paid subscription service, the first three levels of that course are free, and they provide a very gentle intro with nicely edited videos.
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
@fanaugen we don't have anyone lined up for tomorrow so it would be great if you could do a lightning talk
Denise Yu
@deniseyu
yea i like codeschool. maybe actually i'll email codeschool and ask if codebar can have an account
Kriszta Matyi
@matyikriszta
what's the topic?
Baris Balic
@barisbalic
@oliver sass being an acronym should always be capitalised? Also SCSS is more verbose.
Bleugh gutter mobile is awful. That was for @oliverturner
Alex Jahraus
@fanaugen
5 minutes is the upper boundary, right? Because three might end up being enough for me. The topic is x = x + 1
Denise Yu
@deniseyu
:thumbsup: good to leave a few mins for questions :)
Alex Jahraus
@fanaugen

@barisbalic According to Sass’ README, only the first letter in the technology’s name is a capital S https://github.com/sass/sass#sass--

I would always spell SCSS in all caps (like CSS) though

Baris Balic
@barisbalic
@fanaugen that's interesting, there is actually no reference to the original name on the site anymore. Perhaps it was passively renamed to Sass.
