Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
Ah O.K. I thought the student list was pre-populated somehow.
Dale Corns
@dcorns
That would be nice, Hey brook, what is the url and what are the credentials to access that data?
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
With multiple apps, oauth seems like the way to go but boy is it ever a huge pain in the ass!
Dale Corns
@dcorns
Kinda kidding cause I believe that came up before, but on a serious note, it would save a lot of effort for everyone if we added a feature to at least download the useful information for each class before it started.
Brook Riggio
@brookr
Truth. We have single-signon in the dev queue for Panel, to better enable apps like this. Not available in the short term, sorry.
Dale Corns
@dcorns
Ya, know, know need to couple the data bases, but a way to sink them would be good.
I mean, no need to couple...
@tsongas your admin roll should allow you to edit any pgp, as well as remove any resource from the resource list. Being as how you are an instructor you will continue to have this role.
@brookr Just change your roll to 'admin' if you want the elevated privilege.
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
@dcorns thanks I'm off and running!
Dale Corns
@dcorns
Great :smile:
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
@dcorns if there was a way to list students by the date they created their account, that would make it easier to make sure we didn't miss anyone.
Right now I only know they filled out a survey if they post a message in Canvas.
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
I'm now getting an error when I try to save a new resource.
Brook Riggio
@brookr
Dale Corns
@dcorns
@tsongas lol, I love it and such sorting is in the works, great suggestion. The app was fast tracked to be useful and I inherited it, so used what was there to accomplish what we have. A lot of useful features are going to require changes to the data structure which I am in the process of of contemplating. In the meantime, I will try to get the color coding on the drop down list implemented asap which should assist you greatly with that.
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
I also just got an error when trying to save another PGP:
Dale Corns
@dcorns
@brookr Will do, looks like a heroku thing. I don't know how much volume it can handle. I was going to look into locating it at aws because I have been concerned about that. I will check the log...
:worried:
Brook Riggio
@brookr
There is a different error for over capacity, usually a timeout error. One node dyno should be able to handle an awful lot.
Dale Corns
@dcorns
K
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
Definitely NOT capacity issue.
Brook Riggio
@brookr
This is some exception being raised by the code, most likely.
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
So you can't paste an image in here?
Dale Corns
@dcorns
How could you suggest such a thing
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
I can email you a screen shot of the error.
And Heroku is AWS.
Brook Riggio
@brookr
heh, kind of.
kinda like AWS without the API.
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
I mean Heroku puts your stuff on AWS.
Dale Corns
@dcorns
Anyone know how to view the heroku logs?
They are a wrapper for AWS. Anything you publish through Heroku, is literally sitting on AWS servers.
Weird, I just hit save and it worked.
It would also be cool to be able to view the resource list as links so I can view the ones I'm not familiar with.
Dale Corns
@dcorns
There is a link field and it is expected that when a resource is added, the link is added with it.
Oh I think I get what you mean, rather than having to add it to see the link, making it available when pursuing the list. Add an enhancement request.
heroku, crashed and then restarted
Dale Corns
@dcorns
these logs are useful, but looks like I have some more patching to do. (sigh)
Ok, so it looks like the connection to the database was lost and as I've been a bit optomistic about that, probably, have not put any error handling in there for it. I will do so and hopefully, it does not happen again any time soon.
Dale Corns
@dcorns
compose may be a bottle neck, they have a production speed database option.
I set up some performance logging.
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
Maybe if we're on the free plan, the app is going to sleep so when I save from the Angular.js client, the delay while the app starts up causes an error?
I know people use services like Pingdom to ping their free Heroku app every so often to keep it from sleeping.
Dale Corns
@dcorns
I don't think that is it.
The logs indicate that the app lost its connection to the database.
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
That is disconcerting.
Dale Corns
@dcorns
indeed, but this is the first occurrence. Processed the last class without a hiccup so may have just been a glitch. When the db is not in-house, or the web server for that matter, there is a lot of mystery
Could you send me the snap shot you did on your screen, I do have some error handling in here and it would be good to see how it was handled at your end.
