Question about CSS vs JQuery. Are there any differences in performance or flexibility with the transitions, animations, and interactions of CSS vs JQuery? Both have a hover function you can customize, why use JQuery over CSS in that instance?
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
it’s device dependent. Some mobile browsers are slower at CSS than JavaScript actually
matt
@mechlo
So JS over CSS on mobile platforms for example?
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
for hover specifically, jQuery is going to give you more flexibility, because you can run JavaScript instead of limited to CSS animations
It’s not a simple yes/no answer, you have to dive pretty deep into the actual use case and user profile

Makes sense.

@all It appears I may not be down there for class tonight. I’m dealing with a plumbing leak in my apartment that is seriously no bueno. If I can get this resolved by 4, I’ll try to make it. If not, then I’ll see everyone tomorrow during lab time.

The front door is locked, FYI.
There's something jammed in there for now, but if it gets moved you may need to catch someone's attention...

@mechlo
Door got closed. Let us in?

@all I'm in the middle of cleaning up a huge mess and moving to a different apartment. I'd be a serious jerk if I left my girlfriend to do this herself. I won't be down there for lab tonight. I will see all you guys next Wednesday for the final class. I'm very sorry.

Hey all, I just got this notice from tuts+ about their upcoming cyber Monday deal. I really liked their sublime text videos, so I was going to look into some of their others. @tsongas or @ivanoats, do you have any others you'd recommend? http://tutsplus.com/cyber_monday

I find myself circling the same two errors in my code. Is it bad to ask someone else to take a peek to offer insight? I'd consider myself a fairly big newb & the code is a mess---I'm just trying to get something that runs before enhancing it with textboxes or CSS
It is either "Unexpected end of input" on line 1 or "Unexpected token" of a semicolon on the very last line of my code

@PolishZeus
FIXED IT!!!WOOOOOOOT!
It doesn't do anything...but at least I'm not returning errors happy dance
@preetdha and everyone else class 4 and 6 slide decks are now up in Canvas under Files (no class 5 slides).
Chris Tsongas
@tsongas
@OhYeahPortland you'll find that in the class 6 slide deck. I also posted links to examples from class in the Canvas discussions about class 4 and 6.

I’m grading assignments today and have suggested a free Code School course to a few of you. I found it really helpful in learning jQuery https://www.codeschool.com/courses/try-jquery
