noteCollection.fetch({}, {
    success: function () {
        console.log('success');
    },
    error: function() {
        console.log('error');
    }
});
any reason why I can't get anything logged to console from this fetch?
forget it!

should be noteCollection.fetch({
you don't pass the empty object to it first
that's save
noteCollection.fetch({
  success: function() {
    console.log('success');
  },
  error: function() {
    console.log('error');
  }
});

Lastnight I went to Seattle JS's Backbone Workshop at Dev Local and I met Keith Guerin who runs a local start up and is looking to contract someone for JavaScript help. I told him I'd pass his information along. His email is keithguerin@gmail.com.

For those concerned about your code being visible to the global scope, if you are using one point of entry for the client side of you app, and you should; simply wrap it in an anonymous function like so $(function(){<entry point code>});
