Alex Miranda
@ammiranda
if certain form fields are supposed to be disabled until a click event happens would that only be handled in the view or would the model have to be involved?
I just have it set up in the view logic
Alex Miranda
@ammiranda
anyone?
Robert Talamantez
@Talamantez
ya I think you could handle that in just the view
Alex Miranda
@ammiranda
k, that sort of thing would be considered a type of validation though right? because everything I am reading about validation involves the view's model, but I think I only have to worry about that on form submission correct?
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
depends on what the click event is, validation is only really used on data. If you’re not planning on presisting whether or not that click event happened, it’s not really a validation.
Alex Miranda
@ammiranda
for that particular set of radio buttons the form can still be submitted with no value selected because the sample item I have does not have that value defined (represented by an empty string) so I don't think it is necessary to do validation on it

just modified the angular pull request of b15 notes to utilize jwt/basic auth. I’ll be working on a write up tonight but here’s the link if anyone wants to take a look https://github.com/codefellows/javascript-b15-notes/pull/7/files

@AndyCErnst
I have socket.io and jQuery UI questions saved up for tomorrow. I know which ones you'll be more eager to answer. Is anyone a jQueryUI expert?
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
Ahaha, I don’t think we actually have a jQueryUI person in house but I can try to help you.
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
I've messed with jquery drag and drop
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
The drag and drop works fine together, but the sortable partially implements draggable and it's hell to get it to work in a way it doesn't want to. I've look at lots of tutorials and jsfiddles and can't find anyone with my same use case
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
hmmm...
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
just merged a writeup on authentication on the client side with angular, tomorrow I’ll be working on writeup for testing angular with mocha/chai and if there are any other writeups you want at some point this week, let me know. I’m going to try to do a writeup for client side auth in ember but I have to learn ember first.
I should mention that the writeup isn’t deployed yet but it is in this repo: https://github.com/codefellows/Full-Stack-JavaScript-Engineering
Marco Lindsay
@Marco-Lindsay
how about you just use rails and then devise for the server side auth
Kyle Warbis
@UWarbs
yee thanks
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
@Marco-Lindsay Yeah if you want full page reloads everytime you click on something or want to do everything in awful rails javascript that would be a great idea.
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
haha, I know a snarky comment was coming
Kyle Warbis
@UWarbs
:fire:
Tyler Morgan
@toastynerd
=)
That being said, I wish node had something like devise for easy auth
Jeff Adelman
@jeffadelman8
Thanks @toastynerd. Appreciate all your work.
Marco Lindsay
@Marco-Lindsay
Devise works great for auth but give the js community some time and there will be something similar
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
@ivanoats Remember when we looked at that closure I made for FlappyMappy. I figured out why it worked when both of us weren't sure. I didn't understand that pass-by-value for objects means that the value passed is the reference to the same object. Also Elliot didn't address that in his talk on closure patterns. Might be helpful for that to be taught in the class.
I refactored the algorithm and got rid of the closure and now it's much simpler.
I think this means that you can't make closures with objects hoping that the closure will freeze the value of the object, because it wont
Ivan Storck
@ivanoats
@kevinmstephens cool, thanks! do you have a gist for me to look at?
I just published @toastynerd ’s contribs to the gitbook on heroku
I have a 9:30 meeting downtown then I’ll be in.
We should talk about ‘async’ standup for projects maybe
And also the whether it would be helpful to designate the east room downstairs as a ‘quiet zone’
Hailey L. Petway
@hlpetway
Yes please
Josh Cunningham
@joshcanhelp
+1 for quiet zone
Also ... here is everyone's feel good PSA for the day: http://joshldavis.com/2014/06/13/put-yourself-out-there/
Nicholas Harberg
@harberg
Anyone getting some slow internet? Getting a 36% packet loss
I read this article, before coming into the gitter stream to read about the quiet room. Yes please! No pings, dings, noise, or rings.
Kevin Stephens
@kevinmstephens
Quiet as in only our groups talking to each other?
Stephen Boles
@stephenboles
I'm thinking it's for open use...
I could be wrong.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
Not looking forward to spending the whole week down here in the basement
Stephen Boles
@stephenboles
You're down in the basement?
We're upstairs, I'm getting ready for my whiteboard.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
The schedule has us in the basement today. I'd much prefer upstairs
Marco Lindsay
@Marco-Lindsay
I don't want to see any of the javascript class upstairs using our study area

Andy...come on up..the water is fine...
I've only had my life threatened 3 times by the ruby/ux guys.
