So about CMS systems. I tried Keystone.js and it's not exactly simple. It uses mongo, express/node, & handlebars (or Jade) but it comes with dozens of files and hundreds of lines of JS. It was taking me hours to understand how it's supposed to work. For this level of project just changing the html directly to update blog posts is faster and simpler. I'll take a look at assemble and Jekyll though
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
Wow, Jekyll looks WAY easier to maintain and iterate on.

Hey guys, If anyone's interested in NYC I know the Dir. of Programming at a news startup called Mic which bills itself as, "building the New York Times for a younger generation". Pretty legit. He just tweeted that they're hiring. They're looking for Front End Engineers and Node Developers. Wish I had the chops to apply. Check it Out.

@ZBryan
@KuroFluff you should checkout ghost, pretty easy to get up and running. and way easier to work with once you do, post are all in MD so easy that way too.

@aisapatino I com
*(on phone app) I completely agree! We need to do a game night! :)
Hailey L. Petway
@hlpetway
@KuroFluff I like Jekyll a lot.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
What's the templating language in Jekyll? Is it part of ruby? (knows nothing about Ruby)
Hailey L. Petway
@hlpetway
It's a ruby gem
I know next to nothing about ruby also. :)
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
Ah, found it, it's called liquid it seems. Looks like handlebars but seems to have more functionality
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
I'm looking at Ghost now. It irks me though when a "simple" blogging system comes with 50+ dependencies and a 1000 line grunt file.
Nicholas Harberg
@harberg
@KuroFluff What are you trying to do with your cms?
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
This site needs to have a blog, but doesn't need a proper cms. It needs to be very easy to add pages outside the blog, the person maintaining it doesn't know javascript
Nicholas Harberg
@harberg
What you are describing is WordPress, a cms with a blog and the ability to add/create/edit static pages.
Ghost is fine for nothing but blogging, but won't be easy to add pages without a lot of custom work. It simply isn't designed to do that. You could also use Drupal or Joomla, but those two are simply the worst.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
I guess I want WordPress without it being WordPress.
Bottom line, Jekyll wins this round. Nice job Hailey
Hailey L. Petway
@hlpetway
I'm waging war as we speak on the wordpress front
But I wish I could just use Jekyll :)
Nicholas Harberg
@harberg
@KuroFluff, dont' know what to tell you then buddy. WordPress will do everything you are describing with minimal work and a built in UI that most people can use to edit and create pages and blog posts.

Does anybody know the repo we worked on/cloned from to make that real-time chat program with web sockets? I can't seem to find it in the gitbook or elsewhere locally on my machine :(
Nicholas Harberg
@harberg
@ChelseaLura Is this the one? https://github.com/dcorns/simplechat
Chelsea Lura
@ChelseaLura
@harberg YES!! You saved me! Thanks :D

I have an F1 student that’s looking for some help with his javascript assignments from F1. I’m going to be on vacation this week starting tomorrow and have meeetings/f2 this evening. Is there anyone that would be willing to meet up with him and give him a hand? Send me a pm and I’ll make an email introduction. It would be in the evening as he works 7-4.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
Dang, would say yes if it weren't this week. Way too busy this week.

I'm happy I could help. :)

@KuroFluff, I finally figured out pagination for Jekyll. Have you found a good resource for the liquid templating?

Anna Luisa Patiño West
@aisapatino
@toastynerd Did you find someone already? If not I could help.
Andy Ernst
@AndyCErnst
@hlpetway Haven't looked. I've been using what's already in Jekyll and changing it.
